someone tried telling me today that this Echo that was rolling around Newark DE tonight runs mid 15s with only exhaust and they are getting the car turbo'd soon and theyre gonna run 13s then.. I tried debating logically with the guy about it saying there is no way in hell the Echo runs mid 15s with only exhaust etc etc and there is a turbo Echo from EIP in MD thats only running high 14s right now but he wouldnt listen to a word I was saying and insisted his friends Echo runs mid 15s.. dear lord what is this world coming to :)

Ricer mentality seems to spawn "misstruths" quite frequently...;)

"Paired with the standard five-speed manual gearbox or optional four-speed automatic, it develops a respectable 108 horses and 105 pound-feet of torque. With the five-speed, our tester hit 60 mph in just 8.4 seconds and toured the quarter mile in 16.5 ticks at 84.5 mph."

So, you say it can't be done? How often is the GTS tested at 15.5 in the 1/4 mile in stock trim, yet everyone claims it is good for 15 flat.

The numbers could be fudged a little, but it might not be that far from the truth.

The car only weighs 1800 pounds.

Guys, the power to weight ratio of the Echo is pretty good. In fact, its pretty comparable to a Celica GT. I was driving my Girlfriend's Echo on the highway the other day, and the thing accelerates pretty decently at high speed. Passed the 160 km/h mark effortlessly. The suspension is scary though.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 0-60 time on the Echo was 8.0.

yeah, my only beefs are it looks like ass, is so high up, and has no tachometer (at least my friend's doesn't).

but otherwise, it's damn quick for that power, cuz it's so light. a 5-speed can edge out a stock GT-S Auto i would bet. i've driven the auto version and it picked up off the line better than my car, but mine is modded so it didn't feel nearly as quick at redline, but i bet it could hang or pull during the auto GTS's "flat spots" when it's not in VVTL-i.

ironically, that car suffers more from weight sensitivity. add 2 people to that car, and it's slower than mine with 2 people. but hey...imagine if you stripped that thing out, and swapped in a 1ZZ or 2ZZ

If autxr's facts are correct (he usually is) then I've got to put it high on probability. Maybe this guy is the Maeflin (sp?) of the Echo set..........:)

Since you keep complaining how poor you are, I figured it would be right up your alley.

Edmunds got 0-60 in 8.5 with a 1/4 mile of 16.6 for the 5-speed Echo. Didn't they mid 15s in the Celica? That would suggest room for improving on their numbers.

With weight reduction and exhaust I can see the Echo do high 15's!

I raced an Echo a few times at Capitol raceway. Mid 17s every time. Probably an auto but I don't think anyone is expecting jack **** out of an econo 1.5L. I pulled so many bus lengths on him . . . now I know how the domestic dinosaurs I'm usually racing feel when they race me.

Any car can be made FAST. It depends how much you put into it.
End of story.
the Celica is beautiful, looks fast and it is FAST.

If the echo was faster than our cars... I would probably put my head down in shame but, at the end of the day they are still driving home in an echo and not a celica.

Raw Iron, I noticed that all your cars are modified. Is that for performance or just to keep them running?
