take it to the toyota dealer or go to autozone I think they do keyless entry they may be able to help you. You can learn in 5 minutes what it took you 50 to read about.
I need a keyless entry I just use my key for now...

Unless you have the VIP system, you won't have a valet switch.

The Toyota valet switch is usually incorporated into the LED that is mounted in a dash slot & labeled "Security".

If you only have Keyless Entry (no alarm)............ then you wouldn't have a valet switch. You wouldn't need one.

RickyBobby - I've got the factory system and have the same problem as you, but, I know why mine doesn't work. In my case the driver's side lock actuator doesn't work. I know this because if I twist my key in any of the three locks on the car doors the passenger side door lock and the trunk lock will respond, and the center console lock button works for those two locks. The driver's side door lock never works that way.

Web sites I've found sell generic actuators (not sure they'd fit) and junkyards will only sell the whole door at $100+. So I haven't done anything about it. If there is a better solution to this problem, I'd love to hear it.

Could this be your problem as well? IDK

Whether or not your actuators are messed up or not... you should get some kind of result to the above procedure. If not, then you either have a TVIP system or an aftermarket keyless entry. Which is why I asked if there is a Toyota logo on the key fob. From the link in the Installs section, you should be able to identify the remote as being OEM.

Ok Thanks 2Way for trying to help me first off.... My remote is the original becuase it has the toy emblem, but The remote is the one that has the three button remote WITH LED LIGHT.What is the TVIP system, and whats the program for that? I am going to assume its the cheapest system because the car is not loaded ?? But I read it somewhere that the 3 button WITH the LED has the RSC2300(something like that) but the program just isnt working for me. I need to figure this out Iam not the kind to let a damn remote fool me LoL...Thanks Rick

Sounds like you may have the TVIP (Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection) system. Do you have a security LED on your dash? If not, look for a hidden toggle switch (Valet) under the steering colummn or driver's kickpanel and try the directions for Valet switch usage.

As far as I know the only thing on my dash is the thing that tells ya lights to come on.. And ive looked all under the dash but I will run out after this rain quits and double check it? Do you know exactly where the remote sends its signal?? Is it possible it may need reset or possibly re-placed?? I will look and see if I have the switch and get back on here in a few mins and let you know....Thanks again for the help....You dont understand how thankfu I am for people like you LoL...

Ok I checked for the LED and for the valet switch and I have neither. But i thought the remote that has the LED had the switch like you were saying...IDK

LOL, no. Dashboard LED has a built in switch. Basically, you press the LED.

Is the LED lighting up on the fob when you press the buttons? Maybe its a bad remote? Do you get the selection confirmation in step 10 or just nothing?

RickyBobby01288

The remote has the led at the top and yes it is ligting up, I replaced the battery the other night,I dont think it is my remote because I dont get a confirmation or nothing, absolutley nothing at all happens and Ived tried a many of times step by step.

It sounds like RickyBobby has a GT which could have a) no remote system; b) a factory installed remote system; or c) the TVIP system (kinda looks like it may be the latter). In my case I've got the 2000 GT-S which came with the factory installed factory remote standard. My car does not have the TVIP system, trust me. From the people I've talked to, the reason that my car doesn't respond to the factory programming is because the actuator sends responses to the ECU located behind the center console when it's working which tells the ECU whether the door is locked or unlocked, and since it's broken, doesn't send those signals, hence, the programming sequences don't work. It's a relatively simple problem to resolve, except that I haven't found a reasonbly priced factory actuator and my only choices are to spend $100 on a whole door, or buy a generic actuator for $10 that I have no idea will be easily dropped in to replace the existing one. So I haven't done anything, hoping someone on this board will relate their experience with a generic actuator or point to a source for a direct replacement.

Interesting. However, I would assume that you'd hear it try to activate the door locks on the Step 10 confirmation. You have to be pretty quick performing that sequence.

FYI, Dave, there is a post around on the use of a generic.

....Yes I do have a GT and it has the remote that come with it when i bought it so iam asuming it prob just had keyless entry(with no alarm) with my research... Where exactly is this ECU?? Iam not getting a responce and iam doing in plenty under 40 secs

First, thanks for the post about a possibility of a link. I'll have to check, although I think I've already done that, so maybe I didn't put in the right search words. If you've got a direct link, that would be cool.

It doesn't activate, and I've gotten pretty experienced doing it within 40 seconds and tried every other time recommended including the Toyota TSB. The Celica Repair manual, and everyone I talk to say that the actuator is the point of failure.

Anyone know what the least expensive solution is to this problem? Thanks in advance.

Dave

There would be two..... the one Dave refers to is the Body ECU which is located in the center console, directly behind the fusepanel. The other is the keyless entry receiver, located in the driver's rear quarter panel. Or, in the case of the TVIP, above the accelerator pedal.

FYI, from what I can see/tell.... none of the factory keyless entry only units had the LED on the remote.

Here's the older RS3200 info: http://www.customtacos.com/tech/files/tsb/TVIP-RS3200-Programming.pdf

Newer versions use the valet switch for programming.

What remote do you have?

I have the RS3200 Remote with led light as shown there...None of the programs work for me and I was wandering if the receiver may have gone bad and you said that was in the rear quarter panel?? Have you re-placed this part before, or know where I could get one and replace it??? Thanks so much guys for taking time to try and help me and others to fix our bugs!!!

So how do you know which remote to get? I believe i have the valet switch (the little red button to the lower left panel) I've seen 2 different kinds of remotes.
