Because nobody purchased them in the first place.

Yap, since 2005 was the last year and Toyota was phasing it, out not many were available in the first place.

because anyone who knew anything about the Celica knew that 00-01 was the best years ;)

You can thank the Acura RSX for that it came out to compete with the Celica and essentially, with its partner in crime TC, drove it off the market.

Check it out on Wikipedia.

Here I pasted the short article as well. Read it if you want.

[I]North America

In the USA and Canada the base model with 1ZZ-FE engine is called GT, and the higher performance model with 2ZZ-GE engine is GT-S. The GT-S had a more extensive and advanced system called VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing with Lift and Intelligence), which is similar to the VVT-i except until 6100 rpm, when maximum intake valve lift is increased a fraction further to provide an increase in top-end power, accounting for the 41 hp difference. The GT was available in both a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic and the GT-S was available with a close-ratio 6-speed manual and a 4-speed manually shiftable torque converter automatic by Tiptronic.

The Celica enjoyed the spotlight for about a year or so, being that it was one of the few vehicles offering 100 hp/L for under $27,000 USD. Unfortunately, Toyota was too late to the sport compact party

A 5 year run isn't bad at all.

And why were people whining about the higher lift ingagement/lower rev limit?

Oh wait it took you guys forever to realize that a simple ecu and knock sensor swap would get it back....

Yeah but it's much harder to get rid of the Drive by wire and hideous (IMO) looking facelift.

I don't think any were built in 05. The ones that were sold in 05 were built in 04 but sold in 05. Toyota was just selling off their stock in 05.

I remember reading this info somewhere here at some point.

There not many 05 becuz they were other options available for custumers : srt4, rsx type s, mazdaspeed, cobalt ss, ion redline, stang gt, wrx, miata, rx8, etc...why spend 25k on a 1.8L with a peaky engine and unfriendly tranny while you can get a str4 bomb that knocks 2 full secs of the 1/4 mile at 20k? You could have a RSX-Type S, more power, joystick like tranny, better overall balance, more aftermarket support....

now you understand why nobody wanted the celica.
