Torrance, CA - Scion will unveil an all-new concept vehicle, the Hako Coupe, at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. The sporty interpretation of the box concept was developed by Tokyo Design Division which studied global, youth-inspired trends.

The Scion press conference will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 3:15 PM ET in the Special Events Hall in Javits Convention Center. For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed live to the Scion.com website. Following the event, a video clip of the press conference will also be available for viewing at Scion.com.

It will be ugly.

The only question is, how ugly.

just from that pic the car already looks big and overweight, most likely underpowered like all of toyotas' craptacular cars

Hmmmm

They did say the Fuse was style after a Hako super GT car - maybe this is a more production realistic tweaked version of it?

My money is on either that or a body kitted xD with some new skin

Or maybe a reworked urban version of the FJ cruiser?

That front wheel is pretty far forward for a FWD car...

That makes sense. The TC is going into its 5th model year in 09 and they said the goal for Scion was going to be shorter model cycles.

I still think that tire seems to be set pretty far forward for a FWD car Could be just the angle of the picture I guess

not for a front-midship mounted engine, like the G35. Tilt the engine back just a little bit -- lowers the center of gravity slightly, evens out your weight distribution.

i was referring to the mount of the engine, not the drivetrain assembly. the engine is mounted behind the front axle.

anything that scion comes out with probably gonna look like a box or a box from the future.

I know. You can't do that with a transverse mounted FWD layout, which is my point. All the Scions to date are FWD but it looks like this one might not be...

yeah, you just tilt the engine backward... like how a previa's engine is tilted forward.

Believe it or not but Toyota used to make things like MR2's and GT4's and Supra's!

...but seriously that's really ugly. Like Merkur/Aztec ugly

[QUOTE]Scion doesn't want to push its existing three vehicles "too hard," said vice president Jack Hollis. Instead, several new models are under consideration.

i saw a shortened version a commenter on jalopnik photoshopped, and it looked much better. it's got a huge ass, needed it... although i'm afraid i still don't care for it too much. if you really want a 30's-40's hotrod style car, you can pick up a kit and find a donor car for cheaper than you can get a scion uglybox.

I don't think they think people wants to drive an ugly car. Their sales team is all about thinking "outside the box". In this case, i wish they start thinking outside the box without creating an actual box for a vehical. I understand its a very unique looking ride but unique doesnt mean it has to be ugly. The 7 gen celica creator think outside the box by creating a futuristc looking car with the right curves, the trangle sharp head lights, the tail lights that nobody has seen before prior to 1999 and a car that doesnt look outdated. Scion needs to learn how the 7 gen celica creater comes up with things before this company becomes a joke.

...have you seen the 7th gen concept? maybe not so much.

i must say though, it's a timeless design and does not look 8 years old.

yea i've seen the concept back in 99. So what's your point? It actually looks fine to me. Its not hidious lookin like this ugly box they have for the scion :shrugs: The only thing i dont like about the concept is the wing. Maybe there's another concept you're talkin about that i havn't seen yet.

The XYR concept is the concept car on which the current Celica is based.
Configuration is very similar to the GT-S with a 1.8L engine
tuned by Yamaha to around 180-190 HP

The ultimate Celica wasn't a concept car it was a specialty marketing vehicle. It was intended to promote the Celica and was released after the Celica was already in the marketplace
