To the guys who have turbo's: Would the company's who put your kits together do a group thing for all of us? And what would it run?
No offense to Dark Star but d@mn! I don't want to even bother with that WC turbo kit now cuz it seems to have too many hang ups. I mean Blitz and alot of other company's have had no problem with the MR2 Spyder so what's the hold up?
Who all would be in on this if the company's agreed to mass produce the kit?
I'm throwing ideas around cuz the last time I threw an idea around (cams) :D some company's picked it up and started to make stuff so I was just curious.
All the turbo guys could help us NA people alot buy asking their shops.
Thanks guys.
Oh. And I'm working on that Bobby sig for all you who keep asking me to do it. I just can't seem to get the pic to show up in my posts. :(

The Spyder is easy. The Celica is hard because of the Manifold placement. No offense taken I understand. Right now though its at the shop and from what Dave has been telling things are going excellent. I can't wait to see the results. Things are falling together and in the next few weeks complete.
Also Drag the Japanese ECU is easier to work with thats why the Blitz S/C works everywhere except here in the US. I think turbo performance has backed off haven't heard from them in forever so as it stands... this is the only kit nearing the completed stage.
Look for mid July.
Matt
PS: If you can hang on please do!

Well I'm hanging on cuz I won't be picking out my new car for atleast another month or two.
I'm moving and thought a new car would be a nice thing to get when I move. And since the rest of the world drives a Honda I thought I'd get another Celica GT or Mr2 Spyder. So far the spyder wins on the performance following. But the Celica just looks better. A convertible is nice to drive though. :D
I'm holding on. I hope this kit takes me to the 240hp mark or better. With all the typical turbo accessories of course.
Good luck Dark Star.

Hey guys, thought I'd just post a little bit up here...
Well first off, the shops have changed. I liked having a local shop, but frankly, this shop is considerably more capable.
They're also considerably more expensive, but that's my problem not yours :)
Other important bits of info:
-The car is actually slated to be done in approximately 2 1/2 weeks now. It will feature hose connectors in convenient locations, making it easy to change the air intake pipe (we may offer a CAI-style intake tube as an option if it shows any benefit), and also making it easy to change the base or upgraded intercooler with a HUGE intercooler relatively easily, as the piping would only have to be changed to the crossmember.
-The manufacturer has strong ties to Toyota, and does work on new models for them sometimes.
-After a lot of research and discussion, we discovered that the Borg-Warner (KKK) turbocharger found as OEM equipment on the Audi 1.8 and VW 1.8T would be better suited to this application.
The turbo begins to produce boost at just 2000 RPM on an 1800cc application, meaning GT owners would have boost through almost the entire rev band.
This turbo has a similar compressor map to the T28, yet is a little smaller, affording us some flexibility. It is also said to be good to over 15 psi, which means it will be capable of producing more boost than anyone with the stock block can take.
Below are a couple pictures of the turbos side by side. The Borg-Warner is on the bottom and on the right respectively.

Actually, yes we will still offer it. In fact, the manifold for the T3/T4 is done already.
Copies are available now. I'll have to check on the downpipe, but I've seen the manifold. Equal-length design; good stuff.
Going rate would be about $599 for 321 stainless steel (race-quality), less for the 304 mild steel.
So anyway, it's not something we're really going to pursue much, but as everyone knows, the manifold is the hardest part of the install, and this would eliminate that hassle.

So it sounds like you have two totally different manifolds: one that fits the T3/T4, and the new one that fits the KKK Borg Warner turbo. Am I correct or did I misunderstand you there?

We did one at Hotshot and now we have the Borg Warner where the turbo is now so my guess is Davids has the origianl manifold still in his possesion.

So if they are two different manifolds, what other turbos fit the new manifold in case someone wants an upgrade to a bigger one later on down the line (if you built your engine to run higher boost)?

Well, none really. The new manifold will fit the K-04, or a smaller turbo. Kind of like the T28 manifold can accmodate a T2, T25, or T28, but if you want anything bigger, you need a different manifold.
So, for those who want bigger, the T3 type manifold will be fine. A T3/T4 will have more available air flow than even a fully built 1ZZ is going to be able to use, so those who go above and beyond should be fine with that.
So anyway, for those who are going full-mod, the T3 based setup is available, and for those who are going to go simple bolt-on, the K-04 setup will be just fine.
Hope this answers your questions, but please don't hesitate to let me know if you need more details.
Thanks! :)
David

David,
1. So if the K-04 is the biggest turbo that will fit on the new manifold, what is the horsepower or boost limit of that particular turbo? Will that turbo be able to push alot more than the 240 flywheel horspower that is proposed for the kit?
2. Is the WCToyota turbo kit only for the Celica GT, or will there also be an MR-2 Spyder version?
3. Will the T3-compatible manifold also be available as part of a complete kit or are you selling the manifold as a separate item for people wanting to create a custom setup?
Thanks for the info.

A turbo setup for the GT-S is old news . It may be a custom setup but its possible for this kit to be mass produced for a reasonable price . If enough people contact EIP Tuning and ask for this kit they will use the information they have to build a direct bolt-on kit for the Celica .

Well first off the new Si is ugly. But the engine is a 2 liter and I cherped third gear in it. That's pretty good for a 4 banger. Plus the aftermarket will follow it alot better.
Dark Star: How could someone get a "fully built" Celica engine? No one makes anything. That's why I don't want another Celica. No one makes one F*CKING thing!
Cams are coming from Crower......but what else? Where are the piston rods, heads, intake manifold, ect....???? What the f*ck was Toyota thinking makeing a intake manifold that attach's to the head? I could go on for f*cking hours about this car and it's engine.

Well, the K-04 is roughly on par with the T-28 in terms of capability, so a real world 300 crank horsepower is very reasonable.
Judging by the compressor map, I'd say 300hp is reasonable to expect at around 12 psi, which is probably a bit more than the stock block should ever really deal with.
With new internals, the car would be better off with a bigger turbo I would think; probably a T3, T4 or variant thereof. This engine will probably never be capable of using a T-06 or larger like the 3S-GTE can, and really, on a front drive vehicle, you really wouldn't want it (despite what some people are saying).
As it is, this is going to be a whole new experience for many of the lesser experienced GT drivers out there....
As for the Spyder, we are also producing a kit for that, and the first prototype should be rolling down the road at around the same time as the Celica---namely, in about 4 weeks.
The kit for the Spyder is completely different, save perhaps the fuel delivery equipment. The turbo, manifold, downpipe, intercooler, piping, etcetera, are all different.
The T3 kit for the Celica is supposed to have been completed already, and I'm just waiting for one copy to be finished.....
The kit would contain all the bits and pieces, but would require permanent modification and would not be smog legal. It would also necessitate engine modification, so it's really not designed for anyone but the truly hardcore....
I should be posting more progress pictures a week from tomorrow.....

just to give u a rough idea.. a quote I got to install pistons/rods by a respectful source for DSMs.. they wanted 2500.00 in labor to pull the engine.. dismantle it and put it back together.. Im getting it done by another source for a little less.. but not much.. ofcourse to install pistons and rods you dont have to pull the engine.. im thinking somewhere between 500-1000 in labor.. plus the pstons and rods themselves would prolly set you back over 1000

Whoever said turbo'ing the spyder is easy obviously doesn't know much about the MR2 spyder. For one, there is no blitz turbo kit for it, despite the link on their website that is one or two years old that says "turbo." There is no turbo. Blitz has at least made a supercharger for the celica, there isn't one for the spyder, nor is it compatible.
The only two turbo kits available for the spyder are from japan (Power Enterprises and Top Secret) and are not easy to get working reliably, nor are they very cost efficient. Oh yea, I almost forgot the brand new bargain $13.000.00 veilside turbo kit.

you might want to check with Apexi dude, because I saw a Apexi turbo on a yellow MR2 that came to our shop, the owner of the MR2 Spyder works at Apexi. If you have any question you can ask sales manager Sean Calloway (I believe thats his name), they have a kit coming for the MR2 Spyder and you can probably make it fit a Celica GT.

what I ment is that the Apex turbo will probably be available for a GT also, if not you can always ask if they can sell the parts without the small intercooler (no room in MR2S) and the piping.
