I was thinking of buying this 93 celica for my winter car, the seller said that the only thing really wrong with it is the rack pinion, I have never replaced one of these, are they hard to replace? He wants $300 for it, it has over 220k so its up there in miles, but I figured if I could just do the rack pinion myself it would be alright for a winter beater. I would have put this in the repair section but it wasnt for the 7th gen. thanks

Mitchell Labor guide says:

AWD Celica is 5 hours labor to change rack & pinion
FWD Celica is 3.1 hours labor to change rack & pinion.

Good Luck if it's your first time changing one on this car it will probably take about 6 hours maybe little more.

Probably a pain to get to. It'll almost certainly be behind the front crossmember, so you'd need to get an alignment after. Once you get to the rack, though, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Loosen the tie rods, then the brackets holding the rack on, and then the steering column and hoses, and you're set.

And make sure your new rack is properly centered when you're reconnecting the steering column or you'll have issues with side-to-side lock.
