I was heading over to the mall to meet a few friends (which is 50 miles away) well, I took the highway and just about 20 miles into the trip I hear a scrapping noise and I pull over to a rest area and see most of my under panels kissing the road. I tuck them in and I hope for the best. I get on the acceleration lane and it comes loose again so I just say **** it and head straight to the mall. I slow down as I approach the mall and the scraping noise gets really loud and all the pedestrians were staring at me which was pretty embarrassing. The sad thing is that I don't even have a body kit. Thankgod the mall had a target and I bought some damn value pack of zip ties (650pcs.) and a hole puncher. I totally McGyver'ed it in the parking lot.

anyways when I got home I drilled holes and zip ties the plastics to anything I could find but not noticeable. I should be good for now.

And whoever lives on the gulf coast know how windy it was today and that's probably why they failed on me.

****ty deal! you may hit anything in the past that may loosened it up... a few months ago when the snow was pretty bad up where i live i had the mine just about fall off and i just picked up some of those Plastic screw things for like 6 bucks at napa and problem solved

yea that happened to me the first night i got my celica, went up on a curb in the front cause i wasn't used to the car yet. When i reversed it ripped the plastic clips off. Went down the highway the next day and scrape city.

I would go with sheet metal underpanels but they are way over priced

Mine is held up by a few zipties also but I think you overdid it, haha! I've only used like 1 for each original hole :)

Had mine fall off going to school, but that was cuz I was careless and drove over a piece of popped tire.

It was laying flat on the ground I didn't expect it to fly up and hit me!

i don't know...tucking them back in and hoping for the best didn't sound like the best decision

i've never had a problem w/my underpanels, i'd recommend the Toyota push in clip, but you gotta get a certain style for the Underpanels either extra long or two flat head screw driver slots on top

i admit my Sister's GT was stock and she had problems w/hers too

seems like a bigger problems on the GTs?

well i have a GT-S and it still did it. Dont think they underpanels are that much different. Normal wear and tear i suppose. I mean my car is like 8 years old now lol

i don't think its a wear and tear item, the main problem i'm assuming is the type of push pin to hold the Plastic in place play a big part in it along w/whether the car is lowered and/or driving style

toyota will charge you an arm and a leg for the plastic, to me the beatrush underpanel is way cheaper and works better in all aspects

gosh, talk about that dam piece of plastics... previous owner of my celica probably "used" it too often that when I got the car for 1 month, it started to loose out just like u described it. Dragged on the road like crazy and wouldnt stay there after I tuck it in real tight. All holes were broken so I couldnt tie it up either.

Heard of Beatrush but... so dam expensive. Again, somebody should start making replica and sell it at half price or something, guarantee sales...

Its around there...I remember when I price it they told me there is 3 pieces, left, right, and middle. Each one had a different price but i think they were all roughly $150 a piece. So yea probably closer to $400+.

Been there done that....
200 shipped.. I don't think thats overpriced, considering no one else make it.
It helped me not getting stuck in the snow, and keeps the bay clean. and it looks good.

I got an 05 & one day I walked out and noticed my front lip thingie was only attached at the sides & hanging down in the the middle... Prob from going too far in a parking place & when I backed out the curb stopper thing prob tried to steal my bumper.. I just say its for enhanced airflow.. I feel better knowing im not the only one w/ a retarded front bumper/lip deal.

i've also been there w/ these under panels. I just completely took them off and i'm going to get the beatrush underpanel.

I got sick of it too. I just invested in a c-one underpanel! Looks good, and works well! Be careful with those zip ties, they'll eventually rip through the plastics, at least mine did.

Toyota reattached mine at no charge and without warranty.

Really? I stopped by Toyota to see if they'd do it for free, and they said they'd have to charge me about $40! I said no thank you and went to my parents and did it there (can't work on my car where I live).

answer: use the right hardware to hold it on. There is a grille that supports the whole bumper for a reason.

Good answer! I have the Beatrush underpanel on my Corolla! Its way better than those plastic pieces!

Lo_Pro_Life

no once again answer = beatrush underpanel

heres reasons why. so people who know this product can go with me.
1st of all if i had the option i would sheet metal the whole underside of my car insted of just the bay i would cover all with the metal against the unibody side frame so there would be 1 -2 inch clearance with air vents to suck heat out at a very high rate not to mention aerodynamics

1st. aerodynamics faster you go the more it pulls you down.

2nd. engine bay cooling we have FUNCTIONAL noses and scoops its going to pull more ambient temps into the bay and with the set up suck the heat out the bottom. faster you go the more heat that leaves the more ambient temp comes in and the cooler for us SRI guys the air will be.

3rd. keeps the bay alot cleaner(JOHN_B)

4th. MINOR stiffening of the front some people will feel the car handles better. id id for about 5 seconds them i got used to it.

5th.plastic...wind at high rates60-80mph which will fly away first and or what im really trying to say "Flex" and move and no longer serve a purpose except causing turbulence.

6th. its a dealer product. $$$$ Parts - "Oh You Wanted All the Plastics...thats 300+ and the PLASTIC pop rivets to hold it? 400+tax and i wont be able to get it here till next week maybe..alot of celica parts are special order you know. oh thats an extra 10 sorry i forgot" yeah...

so i belive ill say it again.

underpanel = answer FTW & FTR(Fvck The Rest)

I had the right side one come off my 93 GTS at 140 km/hr, no warning at all it just let go, hit the tire and then BANG it was 50 feet in the air behind me. I thought for sure I had thrown the tread off the tire and was easing off the throttle thinking "Wow, this is really easy to drive with a blown tire, what's the BFD." lol

mine were half missing and hanging, so i used zip ties to hold the remaining pieces. but toyota was trying to save wieght im guessing, but w/e. doesnt matter to me cuz mines smashed in the garage.

welcome to the club buddy lol I had pretty much the same story as you 2yrs ago...I was driving to ft meyers to visit my sister and on the highway I heard scraping, all my plastics fell off including my grill...Had to do a quick fix at a random gas station.

i thought i was the only one with this problem, i had my celica for like 2 or 3 weeks and i was coming back to sf from davis. i guess my boyfriend was driving too fast or something because when we hit oakland, i heard the scraping sound. got off the nearest exit. saw the panels hanging. had to use my shoelace to keep it up :wtc: since then, i had to use zipties to keep it up, had to do them like 3 or 4 time :wtc:

Same thing happened to me once when I was driving on the highway and there was a large dip in the road which caused my plastics in the front fall off and fold under and dragged...
My solution was that I twist tied it to a metal bottom grill that I made (you do not have it), its like the metal mesh they use for flooring, you could find it at home depot..

This actually happened to me pulling OUT of the dealership after they replaced my clutch (at less than 30k miles...Toyota paid for that blunder). I pulled right back into the dealership and at first I didn't know WHAT was wrong, but I looked under the front bumper and sure as sh*t - the plastics were hanging.

The mechanic was a little embarrased, but we all forget stuff once in a while I guess. All but one of the clips were sitting on top of his toolbox. Nice...

Anyone know where to buy those plastic clips? Possibly online?

Every winter, they seem to pop off when I back up into some snow, so now my underbody is dragging around on the floor. Toyota charges $3 for each one, which is outrageous for something that probably costs 3 cents. I've been to Pep Boys and AutoZone and they don't seem to have plastic rivets that match.

the whole entire panel is falling off now, it was only the front before :wtc:
