So I my first ticket in the Celica today. Charged with running a red light. The cop was at the corner waiting for the green light and says I made an illegal right turn on red. I know that intersection is "no turn on red" but I did not see the cop. (at least I am honest) Anyways $140 ticket in MD. I plan on goin to court but was wondering I heard moving violation especially if stopped by cop means insurance premium goes up?
I know there is a lawyer on here somewhere. Any help appreciated. Hope when court date comes cop does not show up and I can get away.

A little while back I got pulled over for doing 80 in a 55. It was a statey because it was on the highway. He told me that since I did in fact slow down when I saw him, he only got me with a "failure to stop at a stop sign" instead of giving me wreckless driving, which was a 300 something dollar ticket. I didnt get a court date, just a ticket for $75 and I could choose to pay it or not.
My insurance didn't go up, and nothing went against my license. It could vary from state to state, or even insurance companies. What insurance do you have?

I know people who have Allstate, and there insurance has gone up with tickets. Just like you said, just call your agent and let them know you recieved a ticket and how much will it cost if it does in fact go up.

i actually work for AIG insurance, and yes ur premium monthly will go up for moving violations. However, they prob wont find out about the ticket until your policy renews when they rerun your MVR. policies renew every 6 months.

haha, is there any threads that compare people's insurance on their cars? or a thread on the worst tickets ever gotten? i had a 93 in a 65 in my old 89 plymouth acclaim back in 06 (i only had my license for 13 days, i was dumb).
Since then nothing major, and nothing in my celica yet.

don't call your Agent yet...wait until the Ticket is finalized
go to Court, that's a good decision, always fight tickets in most instances
going w/out an Attorney for minor offenses is really a crap shoot...just do your best to point out anything that could prove favorable to your case
when you go in, have any supporting evidence w/you...example, maybe it was a less than clear day, maybe there were some stickers or vandalism on the sign, maybe theres a tree blocking the sign...go back out there and take some pictures and it may help your case
initially if possible, ask to speak w/the Public Defender if possible, not sure if they allow this in Traffic Court in Maryland but if they do, they'll probably offer you something better if you state this was your first offense for this, first time ever getting a moving violation, etc. etc.
just be respectful and know what your doing
if you can't plead it down for a lesser offense, ask that's the KEY part most people don't ever ask is for alternatives such as taking Defensive Driving Class (this may end up costing more than paying the ticket) but in the long run, you'll be a bit or a lot smarter for it and cost/benefit will even out w/not having to pay the originally violation and having your premium go up
there's plenty of WebForums w/strictly Lawyers who can assit you even further
good luck

Your insurance company may do random driver record checks. Otherwise your stuck with the fine and whatever points on your driving record.

I had not thought about going to the court house and asking for a lesser charge I think I'll do that
It's still really early so I'll wait until my court date comes and then go ask
Has anyone ever asked and gone with a lesser plea?
