View Full Version : Front wheels viberate over 55?

Ok when I am driving in normal traffic my front wheels seem fine, but when I get in the highway and go over 55 my steering wheel starts viberating like crazy. I know it can't be the alignement because I had it done last week and the tires are in good shape aswell. I only have 21,000 miles on my car and it is getting on my nerves. Do you think it might be bent axel or the a bent wheel?
Please advise

Probably not a bent axle (though it could be). Sounds to me like you have a tire that is out of balance.
Head to the nearest tire shop and pay them for a rotate and balance.

I agree. Get the tires rotated and balanced. That should solve the problem.

do you have rims? I didn't have Hub Centric Rings and it shook a lot.... also check out your rotors... they might be warped.

If the vibration occurs during steady speed driving or acceleration, then it's your tires out of balance. If it only occurs during braking, then your rotors are warped.
Did it vibrate before the alignment? Since you said you just had the alignment done, it's entirely possible that they did a crappy job. If that appears to be the case, take it back to the same shop and have them redo it for free.

No rims, although I am planning on getting the Moda R6 18x8
225/35-18. What do guys think, should I get the rims and then get an alignment or it will be ok since I got one last week.
Thanks

Alignment will NOT cause the wheel to shake, nor will it fix the problem,
It is one of four things (in order)
1) Tire Ballance
2) Bent Wheel
3) Did you but chance use a can of "fix-a-flat"
4) Bent Axle

A poor enough alignment could. But no shop would do that bad of a job...

Well, speaking from experience, on my old car (little crappy Hyundai Excel) the steering wheel started to shake at 50+ MPH. I took it in to get the wheel alignment done, which I had noticed was needed before I noticed the vibration, and the vibration stopped.

It could also be that you have a flat spot on one, or both of your front tires. That would happen when you might have slammed on the brakes at one time and turned the wheel a bit while the car was skidding.

you can get it to shake using an alignment... but they would've had to f*ck up big time... like give you positive toe in one end and negative toe in a another

Sounds like you need to balance your wheels.

It might be your brakes too, I had a caliper stuck on the brake pad once, I had to change the caliper.
Put your car on a lift and try to turn your wheels to see if its easy or not to turn them.
