Yes, the new EVO to be introduced to the US will be the EVO 8 with a revised front-end similar to the current 2002 Galant (see CONCEPT photo right). Equipped with the famous Active Yaw Control (AYC) and Active Center Differential (ACD) the US-spec EVO VIII will pump out an estimated 270bhp! Two side-mount intercoolers will replace the front-mount intercooler to conform to US crash standards. But don't get your hopes up, only 8000 units are expected to make it here (although that's double the original estimate). Five colors will be made available, and expected price to be around $31k - but you can expect dealers to mark that up by at least $5k due to the overwhelming demand. This is also rumored to be the first EVO to be available with two-doors.

What's with this limited preoduction ****! Mazda is doing the same thing with that Mazdaspeed Protege (the one with the turbo) later this year, except they are even more assinine with only 2,000 units.

Never question CelicaDetective. He's on the internet all day long looking for breaking news and subscribes to weekly mags. To bad this is my only Celica source of info!

Interesting but I will believe it when I see actual dyno results. Everyone remember the hype prior to the RSX-S's release. We all know in real life the RSX-S is no better than a Celica GTS.

just rumors...
this isn't real news unless it's officially announced...
the reason why they will be badging this car the "evolution 8" is because in the "evolution" series of the lancer, they only produce 10,000 of each model... eg. 'Evolution V' round the world had 10,000 units... 'Evolution Vi' 10,000 units... the 'Evo 7' already sold out it's 10,000 units around the world (exluding the US of course) so they are keeping the 10,000 unit tradition by badging it the 'Evo 8'...
believe me, i've been researching this since the beginning...
the rest of the info is just a rumor...

where's the pic!?
Hell, I'd like to see dyno plots for ALL Japanese engines. Runs with production induction system, production exhaust backpressure, production AFR and production spark. If they produced this I think we'd all be surprised.
That said, I'd still love the cars. HP is all marketing HYPE anyway.
I see where you're going, though, Camry2k. I, too, wonder what bhp level that car will have. For example, the Subaru WRX STias shipped to Europe and Australia does not have cam phasing like the Japanese version. Why would they do this? Are they using the Japanese market as a test [i.e., reliability/durability] market? I dunno. All I ask is that they send us a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. Why? Because one could safely add more power to get similar levels that are achieved elsewhere.

I totally agree with the line about exact HP numbers being marketing hype. As long as the cars kick ass in terms of real world performance (as the EVO VII and many other Japanese cars do) who cares about their exact HP numbers.

i dont understand why they dont use wheel horsepower as real ratings. a car can have tons of hp at the crank, but that won't matter if the drivetrain is inefficient...
hm.... at the LA auto show, they showed a mitsubishi evo 7 and said that it was coming stateside. is badging it an evo8 just some kind of marketing ploy? evo7 HAS been out for a long time..... mitsu COULD think that we dont want an older product...
however..... is there a j-spec evo8 yet? mitsu spent a lotta time trying to pass US regulations WITH the evo7. either way.... were getting a AWD turbocharged four-banger with hp ratings (at the crank) at the mid-200's. either way u look at it. its a winner.

But it still had a worse laptime compared to the hotchkis celica. ;) with all that HP too!

just like that rumor a couple of motnhs back where someone on a mitsu forum said that you can remove a peace of plastic for the US Spec evo to get the horsepower back that you lose from the jap spec

Hate to say this but I told ya so, theres no way this car is going to be as mass produced as a Celica. Hp figures sound a little fishy tho, they are stated at 276bhp here but are more like 300.
