save 2-3x as much and dont just use lowering springs. Eventually the lowering springs are going to wear out your stock shocks quicker. Save up for the full coilovers. i know they are super pricey, but it will be well worth the money spent.

it depends on the kind of ride quality you want and/or if you are going to do auto-x or want more out of your suspension. Coilovers are nice yes and no, they allow you to adjust the ride height, but lowering springs will lower just fine it if you don't feel like changing the height. The only thing you'd have to do is get a good combo of lowering springs and better shocks.

I've had some Tein S-techs for a year with stock struts and I haven't noticed any reduction in ride quality or height, and I'm no suspension guru but you don't always have to buy the best to get what you're looking for

Smooth ride + great drop don't really go together. If you want a smooth ride, you can go with the Eibach Pro Kit (1.2" drop) and Tokico HP or KYB AGX shocks. Great drop would be Eibach Sport Springs or Skunk2, and the shocks don't matter cause they'll get blown pretty quick anyway.

Generally that max drop for shocks is about 1.5", unless you get them shortened (which costs $$$). Coilovers are the way to go if you want more than a 1.5" drop, but the ride is generally going to be very firm and they cost around $850 (the cheapest ones).

If you're interested in a small drop and smooth ride, I'm selling a set of Eibach Pro kit springs and Tokico HP shocks--you can PM me for details.

throttle sells a suspension mod for $110, its probably the most cost effective mod for the car from what i hear

how long do stock shocks last with springs

there is really no easy answer for that. It depends on how much your car has been lowered. what kind of driving you do and how hard you are on the suspension. Not to mention what kind of miles are on the shocks already. They could last a few months or maybe even a year though that is not likely. If you want a smooth ride and a small drop go with a set of springs and shocks. If you want to sacrifice a smooth ride for a moderate to extreme drop and adjustability then go with coilovers.

Wait ! Am I understanding this correctly ? Basically no matter which shocks/struts that I purchase to replace my stock ones ,which have Eibach Sport springs, will within approximately one year after installation and use, will with little doubt need to be replaced again ?

I don't want to believe this. Please say this is not so.

forget lowering springs, get hard sways it will cut more seconds on your laps time and you won't need a alignment.

Hotchkis comp sways.

I can't say for sure, but from what I've heard, there are no shocks that are made to work with springs that low (~2"). That means that if the shocks blow out, you can't get them replaced under warranty. You might have better luck though--I know there are a few people on this board with all kinds of shocks (stock, Tokico, KYB) with sportlines that are still good after a year--the chances that they'll last are just slim.

I am a bit confused here...

Stock shocks, with drop say 1.2", may not last for more than a year?

Stock shocks aren't going to like it. they will wear more quickly but not necessarily in one year. If your going to change out your springs you might as well do shocks as well. blown shocks are not the end of the world either. yeah the car is gonna handle like **** but it's not like the car is undriveable. If your gonna do any drop greater than an inch I would get some shocks that are built for it instead of relying on the stocks to hold up.

thats scary, needing to replace s/s yearly after lowering a car. How are the guys running skunk2's holding up with their aftermarket springs compared to the tein s-techs with aftermarkets after that year period? Now are the guys who are getting such short life out of them doing autox every weekend or are those daily drivers?

You could buy ground controls and konis for about 500, should last a really long time seeing as installing the konis involves shortening the strut body. It's probably the longest lasting setup you can build.

to each his own, but this is what i did

bought a new set of tanabe gf210 springs from a member on here for 100 dollars (1.5 drop roughly)

matched them with a new full set of tokico hp blue series shocks/struts bought off ebay for 200 dollars

bought new eibach anti roll kit from coximports.com for 200 dollars

went ahead and spent 60 dollars more and got the energy suspension bushing set as well

car rides clean and fairly tight (running 19 inch rims with unexpensive tires)

if you go slow, and search the members on here, you can pretty much do anything, but i will admit, it takes patience.

i love this site and i love the deals, just as good as ebay BUT you have to know what you want or at least a good idea
