I've been searching around the major car manufacturers sites and find myself disheartened. Is it just me or is nobody coming out with good looking cars anymore. The new WRX is a step in the wrong direction, nothing from Lexus, Acura, or Toyota stands out. They are all rather bland commuter looking cars. One exception is that I think the new Accord Coupe looks good, and the S2000 is still nice. Toyota has canned the Celica, Supra, and MR2, and Scion doesn't really strike my appeal. Anybody else feel this way?

i bet one of the manufacturers are just playing some time and designing the ultimate. So in other words start saving your penny's. Look at the their concepts and it gives some hints and stuff where they're thinking of heading.

there's no way toyota would just end such a long heritage such as the celica > supra

so you think they might come back some time with a new celica, or supra. There has been no break in the Celica line from when it started in 1970 and ended in 2005. I know they ended the 7th gen, possibly prematurely because of a fall off in sales. You don't think the Scion TC is the Celica's replacement, permanently?

I've heard that one too, I thought it was funny and then I realized it's got the 1zz and I thought maybe he's right. The body is not that much different, I don't hate it, but I don't really like it either.

Mazda still makes a good looking car. The mazda6 and RX-8 are very nice looking. The 350z is another good looking car. Both the Z and 8 stand out in a parking lot.

Granted both of those designs are getting dated, but they still look fresh when compard to most of todays new cars.

I did neglect to mention Mazda, they do have some sweet cars. Also Mitsubishi, 2008 Eclipse and Lancer are nice. The American version of the Skyline coming out soon looks pretty nice too. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought...

raise your hand if you don't like scions. ::raises hand::

idk, the tc doesn't look like a sports car at all. the celica on the other hand looks like it's a sports car from any angle.

to replace a celica which has almost always been a sporty car of the age with a sedan... doesn't seem quite right.

they will come out with a new celica eventually. I had a dream about going and getting the down n dirty from the toyota manufactures haha. I could make a thread of the dreams i have about celica's.

Are you too young to remember the 90's? Sure we had the Supra, RX-7, 3000GT, Eclipse, etc...but look what we didn't have srt-4, turbo gti, wrx, evo, turbo ralli-art, any mazdaspeed cars, no hemi christlers, no 450hp stock vette's, no GT-R's, etc...I think overall you have more good choices now than you did in the past imho.

I really hope you're kidding with that statement, because the Celica doesn't come anywhere close to the Supra in the sports car dept.
Supra: Looks incredible, People make tons of power out of the 2jz, and RWD
Celica: FWD, Decently quick, Handles great, not much of an aftermarket, Good gas mileage

The worst thing automakers have done was stopping production of driver-oriented sport cars such as the Supra,Celica,Mr2,Rx-7, and other quick beasts of the such. I miss the Supra the most.

Well I tell you what the problem is if they bring back a car or make a new sporty type they put a huge price tag that only a rich person could afford and maintain. Like the new Evo 37grand or more and the new camaro and the new GT- R. Or what they do is add a bunch of junk we dont need like cameras and electronics and sensors and plastic covers out the a$$ or make it a 4 door when it should be a 2 door. This is what I'm mad about these days compared to the 90s.

Oh really? If you want to hate get your information right. Show me the 90's neon that holds a candle to the srt-4. Could you not find anything else in my post that was wrong? How about getting an opinion with some thought behind it and sharing it instead of being a waste of bandwith. :wiggle:

The original name was the celica supra, just like you have the camry solora. They are just better spin offs

lol I agree with that more then Toyota Celica but actually it is just part of the naming scheme of scion it would have been xC if Volvo I think didn't already have it. xA xB xC xD....

NO it doesn't, but tC fanboys would like to think so. Scion originally wanted to name it xC to continue the theme, xA, xB, xD but xC was already a series of Volvo vehicles.

tC stands for touring coupe at best.

I think toyota will bring back the supra.. or a 6 speed like it ,,, inline 6 monster.. people have always liked toyota's sports cars even when they are underpowered like some of the older models and the mr2 1zz... Toyota likes making money so i think they should put a new sweet model out soon!

With the introduction of more and more emissions/safety regulations, performance goes further and further into oblivion. Cars are making more than double their horsepower, and yet they are nowhere near as fun as cars making 140hp.

The AE86 Corolla, MK1 MR2, Miata, etc. All had crap for horsepower but were so light and great on gas mileage due to their lower standards on safety and emissions.

We will never see another car like these due to this fact. But we probably will see more horsepower, that is something that will always increase.

woops, sorry for the confusion there.

I didn't mean to make it look like the celica > supra.
I was referring that the supra was based off the celica, it branched off from it from what i remember back in 1979.

so like i said, it'd be stupid for toyota to just halt manufacturing of celica's after 35 years of it being in production, same with the supra name which has been in production since 25 years?

Don't hold your breath for that. Toyota stopped making inline 6 gasoline engines. The GR-series V6 replaced both the JZ and the MZ/VZ engines.
