When should wheel bearings be replaced? I have a whirling noise after a rotor install, but I was thinking it could need to be replaced.

After looking online at the rear bearings, replacement is ridiculously expensive.

Does anyone know when the packed grease should be cleaned out and replaced? I'd like better tire movement and a raise is gas mileage hopefully by doing this. My car has come up to 98K, so.... maybe it's time to replace the grease?

The bearings are good...they rarely need replacement.....something is rusted (dust shield, rotors, parking brake pads) and is rubbing!

the whirring noise is usually assosiated with bearings...but most new cars make the noise...its hard to say

98k...could be time that the wheel bearings have worn out. But if the noise only started after a rotor install, I'm betting it has something to do with brake pads touching the rotor.

When you were installing your Rotors.. did you take a hammer to it cuz it was seized? or any hard impact?
