I read the entire thread and it really isn't too much of a diss going on. Lots of cracks on the "ugliness" of the car, which I don't understand at all. There is also lots of conversation about how lame they think the new Celica advertisements are (remove the celica insert a Prelude and I bet they would be all over it's nuts). But buried in there are some good comments. I was expecting a flame war from the title of this thread.

First you say you don't care what somebody says about your car, then you brag about how many looks you get. That seems a little hypocritical. Apparently you do care what others think of your car.

On the number of looks comment, keep in mind that a car with pink flamingoes mounted on the hood gets tons more looks than your Celica. Does that mean it's better looking?

I honestly don't care what people think, but was pointing out that apparently some people do think it looks good.

I guess if you wanna take that route, I have at least 1 person every few days come up and make a comment. Always good.... ;)

I didn't think the post at Honda-tech was bad at all. There are numerous comments made over here about how ugly the RSX is. I think both the Celica and RSX are pretty hideous. Most of the discussion over there was about the lameness of the Toyota "looks fast" commercials and slogan. History has shown that most people over here agree with that sentiment. If the car was fast, you wouldn't have to keep trying to convince people to buy it because it looks that way. Remember Honda's first RSX-S commercials. They showed the car running flat on roads and such, not sitting in a neighborhood. Honda was showing that they thought their car was fast and a true performer, not just a poser on the corner. The RSX-S and GTS are very similar in performance, but it's interesting that the advertising took two very different approaches...

I did see that some people did actually have some good points about Celica's on there (mostly the GT-S). Another big complaint seemed to be about the wing on the "action package".

OK... for me.. I like the commercial... it does give wrong impression of Celica is slow...
But when you actually race and other people who thinks Celica looks fast WILL be hella suprise that it's actually goes fast too with looks fast.....
I like the race where you loose at start but catch up and past them... feeling... other racer will be what tha hell... that is like the Kodak moment....

What's an opinion of the way a car looks got to do with sticking around? I don't like the way the Z06 looks, but I like the way it performs.

Btw, I never said I thought the RSX was a true performer. I just said Honda had the frame of mind to market it as such. I think that is much more appealing than "looks fast." They decided to go with "is fast."

Agreed. I didn't think the RSX performed like an RX-7, but apparently this guy thinks it does. I guess he's giving it more credit than I would. Glad to know some Celica owners think the RSX performs better.

I like the celicas now, but not at first when they were new to me. And the RSX i thought was ugly but now i like it a lot, in comparison to all the other cars around here. Where i live there are mostly old people driving civics, taurus', crown vics, and then 80% of all the modded cars are civics with type R emblems on em.

I am embarassed by the toyota "looks fast" ad, its just waiting there for an acura ad to pop up next to it saying "faster than it looks" or something like that.

My cousin has a 98 civic and even though i HATE those damn cars so much I still do all i can to help him make it nicer, different, faster, and cool. It looks mostly stock, not ricey. One thing he's workin on is getting a drivetrain from a GSR integra and puttin that into his car. He has a hookup from a salvage yard for about $1,000 for the whole front clip with engine and trans. Thats a start to bein different. Now if only all the ricers at the honda board went that far to be different then i'd like em a little more. Just puttin on a huge wing, decals, and exhaust tip doesnt make a performance car. If they wanna slam us they better catch up first.

I see the new civic si tested at 15.9-87mph. But sadly enough was behind the FORD FOCUS on every part of the driving test including the 1/4 mile, slalom, braking, skidpad, and 0-60. To me thats more embarassing than a bad advertisement. Even the "performance" version of that car needs lots of work in all areas to make it worthy of trash talking most other cars- including the grocery getter ford focus.

The ITR was imported to the US in 97 and 98 in Championship White only. It was not imported in 99 to the US, but came back for 00 and 01 in Pheonix Yellow and Flamenco Black Pearl.
