View Full Version : Reverse Beep?

Don't have the car yet but keep reading about reverse beep. Is this a constant sound for as long as you are backing up or just a momentary thing? Does it sound outside the car or interior only?

Reverse Beep? Is this the latest Canadian Celica Mod (probably could get about 5 additional WHP outta that)? We certainly don't down have them in our cars South of the Border.

In all North American model celica, there is a reverse beeper for the GT-S model only. And to answer Elliott's question, the beeper is on as long as you are in reverse gear. and NO you can not hear it from the outside.

P.S.... you can take out the reverse beeper.

The reserse beeper is stock on the european GT and GTS.
Together with the parking sensors they make a lot of noise.... :D

Go to the install section when you buy your car if you want to remove the beeper.

If I did want to remove the reverse beep, would it really be that hard to tell if I was in reverse vs. another gear? I've been driving manual longer than I can remember but all shifters were different. Mostly, there was an over-and-down shift into reverse. Is the celica just upwards or somewhat over-and-upwards?

Also, being electrically-challenged, I wouldn't attempt to disable it myself. Think Toyota would do it for a nominal fee?

I'd leave it in at least at first. 1st and Reverse are pretty close and the beep isn't really that intrusive. Once you get a better feel fo rthe gerbox if it annoys you get rid if it. I don't really notice mine on a conscious level anymore though so I don't mind it.

Got the gts today! Actually, I find the reverse beep re-assuring so far. Although I'm not new to driving MT, it is taking a bit of time to get used to the gears and having the beep is a good thing IMO, at least for now.

...but I already discovered that it's pretty easy to drown out the beep if my music is playing loud. Gotta really watch reverse vs. first.

Just pull left without any force. The shifter moves really easily until it reaaches the line that speartes 1st from reverse. It takes force to cross over into the reverse area. Once you feel resistance you know you are inline for 1st.

I teach mostly Math in High school. I also teach the odd computer and History class when needed.
U enjoying your new car Elliot? How many miles you have on it now. When I was breaking in my engine I looked for any excuse to rack up the miles. Never made so many erands in my life ;) Careful, lift is addictive. You will begin to spend most of your time above 6000 rpm's

yea but the honda's reverse for a 6speed tranny is lower right. urs is upper left. so u can mistake urs for first gear, which u can easily start off in. where if u were in 6th gear and thought u were in reverse and tried to start off, u'd probably stall, or burn ur clutch. so it'd be pretty much useless to have it in the honda trannys
