My celi used to hit 6000 rpm's then bam. Now there is very little difference between 7000 rpm's to 4000 rpm's. Any advise?
Thanks

Could be a billion different things. It could be that the engine is cold, or it could be that you are in desperate need of a tune up. I would take it to a dealer (I know, doesn't sound fun) and see if they can find the problem.

Does it do it all the time. The first 10 minutes I drive my car in the morning, it wont go into lift, probably cause it needs to warm up.

No just started to do it about a week ago. When the car is warm is what i am talking about. I know they don't kick in when cold. I just hope it isn't something serious.
And i only have 22000 miles on it!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I have the same problem in my car, and lots of people on this board seem to have had or still have that problem with their Celica. It might be a manufacturer defect. I've read dozens of posts about Lift not working, loss of power after 6000 rpm. And I don't know what that problem is.
Some say they fixed the problem, it'll be great if they can tell us what exactly is wrong with the car. Maybe someone can ask a toyota mechanic or something.

This is exactly what I've posted 2 months ago. I posted 2wice as a matter of fact. No one said anything so I thought i was the only one.
At first I thought it happened when the temp was at 2 clicks. But I found out that it does it when I've been driving a long time mid way.
Some people in the past who had this problems were those who misshifted. I've never mishsifted mine.
The strange thing I notice on mine is that the kick-in does not hit consistently with the same strength.
1. Sometimes there is no power increase at 6k( it seems exactly like it's in the lower cam) and goes up to 7k and the power comes normally.
2.Othertimes, there is still no change of power at 6k until seconds before I shift at 8.2k; so right when i shift, it pulls all of a sudden really strong.
3.Now the last scenario that happens is that there is the lift at 6k but much weaker but otherwise normal.
I know it's weaker because, on the subsequent lift tests, the lift might hit normally.
I know I lose power because, when these lift defects happen, I cannot chirp the tires on fast shifting.
anyone can agree with this?

Hey enough of Dumb responses like is your car warmed up all the way, or this? use common sense! It was very evident in my post that I've tried out many things. If you don't have a solution or are not expenciencing this problem do not reply.
I am beginning to think that after alot of lift use, this happens. So all of you that don't have it yet and think it won't happen to you, watch out.

last month someone fixed it by replacing the TWO solenoids that control the lift. One is for the advance and one kicks in the extra lift. Not sure how much $$ but probably like 150$. My factory floor mat keeps sliding up under the gas pedal and causing it to get stuck wide open... scary. And its clipped to the floor like its supposed to.

whats ur problem rocket? some people are dumb or are not car savvy so all responses i think would be welcomed
anyway, there has been problems with hondas, where the vtec solinoid was clogged or bad, so thats another thing that can be checked

Well here's what is totally happening. just changed the oil and filter ( someone suggested that) nothing. When i hit 6k it hesitates like if you would let off the gas real quick then floor it. I have no clue but it really F_CKING SUCKS!!!!!!! Thanks for all the advise previously and in the future. i am heading to the all mighty toyota dealership (yeah Right) tues. will let everyone know what is up then.
I had the same thing happen to me in the past. Whenever I tried to go into lift, it felt like it's hesitating speed up. So I took it to the dealer and have a master mechanic test drive while I'm in the car. When he drove it, everything was normal. Lift was working fine. I found out that if you step on the gas hard, you'll feel lift kick in hard.

I am a new member in this Kick-in power loss group.
People have been replying that maybe we're not punching the gas or that the car is not warmed up and my comment is that most of us have been driving for a bit so these things can be ruled out.
few mentioned about checking oil pressure. How do you do that?
GT-Skid I responed on this thread in perf. mods. but I don't know if you checked it. Anyway I have a 2000 GT-S that would not hit lift. This was back in January of this year. I never got a CEL and the computer the mech. hooked up said everything was fine. One dealer said they could feel the problem but I should drive it til a lite came on. I never went back to that dealer. The next dealer did more checking and finally found the oil pressure in the VVL system was 30 psi short. When he pulled the cylinder head off he found a broken bolt in the valvetrain. This caused the oil passage way to be blocked so no lift. It took 3 weeks but he rebuilt the head and now it runs like new.

Yes RobD and I had the same exact problem. I had to take my car to several different dealerships, but they still denied anything was wrong with my car. I had to call Toyota's 800 number and a Toyota Rep came down to Test drive it and agreed with me that the car was not performing like it's suppose to. He made the arrangements to have it repaired, after I kept stuggling with toyota dealership in my area to repair it. But it was the same problem a bolt broke and blocked the passage way so it restricted oil flow which lift will only sometimes kick in. I have to say thanks again to RobD for the information he has shared with me when I had the same problem.. Thanks
