ok so i just ordered 17" rims from edge racing and so im going to be able to see alot more braking system and so is everyone else
also need to get new brake pads (i was thinking TRD)
here are my noob questions:
1. do i need to get my car aligned when putting new wheels on it
2. where should i get new brakes, should i go to sears, midus, goodyear...etc
3. should i order break and have above put them on
4. do you think it would be a good idea to get new rotors since they are more visible
5. any ideas to help me out
6. could you post some pics of your brakes for ideas
7. get new rotor and caliper and do drum to disk conversion in the back?
8. know of any where i could take a automotive class i really want to change all this stuff myself but im 16 and my mom is freaking out about me buying wheels off the internet, so i want to get some experience so that she trust me and that i dont have to let someone else work on my car (i was thinking mabe a class at NOVA or something)
i would LOVE a BBK but on the cheep
i really like cookie's 5zigen gn+ and wilwood' looks really sharp
and i also really like the used TRD big brake kit that someone is selling on here but buying new rims wiped my out of cash

IMO, if you don't have the cash for it, don't do it. The stock brakes are really good, even for just the GT's front disc brake setup. It's not like you won't be able to stop with your new 17" wheels. :ugh:
Just get an alignment done.
I've got 18" wheels on, and braking didn't change much. Just get better brake pads.
Oh, and unless your stock rotors are crap, just get OEM replacements - I think LarryD works for a Braking company - he ran a GB before. Or if you want some bling, just get some slotted OEM replacement rotors for the fronts.
For the drums, I suggest painting them black again as the stock finish looks cloudy.

Not that I'm aware of.

Your stock brakes are fine, unless it is a show car a BBK will be almost utterly useless and expensive. Just get the TRD pads.

No.
2. where should i get new brakes, should i go to sears, midus, goodyear...etc
The internet.

No. You should do it yourself of go to a trusted mechanic. If you want I can give you the address of a friend of mine in Fairfax who owns a service station or take it top Andrewtech in Gaithersburg.
4. do you think it would be a good idea to get new rotors since they are more visible
You only need new rotors if your old ones have uneven wear (warped) or they have worn past the recommended depth.
5. any ideas to help me out
Don't know exactly what you are asking here.
6. could you post some pics of your brakes for ideas
They all look the same except those who have drilled or slotted rotors which you probably do not want and certainly do not need.
7. get new rotor and caliper and do drum to disk conversion in the back?
It really only helps the looks of your car, it isn't necessary, the car will stop fine with drums in the rear.

I do some work with people at NOVA but I'm unaware of any automotive tech classes they teach (doesn't mean they don't exist though). There's always LTI (Lincoln Tech). The high school I teach at in northern VA has a auto shop course.

It won't do anything really. Try to concentrate your money more on "bang for your buck" mods at your age.

Does anyone know of any nationwide style automotive classes. (aside from college) i was in a vocational high school but i went through doing IT stuff, kinda regret it now.

don't spend your money on your car first unless you have the extra cash you're willing to toss out the window.
save it for nice things, and once you've saved enough and don't know what to do with it, then you can blow some.
in a few years you're going to want to move out, and that is definitely not cheap. (i wish i had listened to what people have told me like this, i'm at this stage now.)
Not that I'm aware of. Wasn't it Larry that conducted a brake GB a while back? Or am I confusing him for someone else?

I live in DC but I teach at TC Williams.
Start saving as soon as possible, you'll thank me later. Seriously. I know a lot of teenagers and your budget is pretty stretched nowadays, I would worry about gas more than mods if I were you.

i agree with everyone else. if you dont have the cash but your pads are going bad, you can splurge and get some better pads but normally its not needed as stock are perfectly fine. also most aftermarket pads cause significantly more dust which is a pain for daily. Saving now is nice so in college you dont need to worry about working as much to work on studies . . . or spend it on beer depending on your degree
