I notice some rust on the brake calibars, especailly at the rear. Would this be a bad sign and that i need to replace them? However i'm painting these anyway so should i just replace them or can i sand the rust out and paint it over

Brake rotors rust. They're made out of steel, steel rusts. It's normal.
The paint/finish on your calipers should keep them from rusting but if it's worn (ie: you spilled brake fluid on them usually) they can rust. If you scrape it all off and repaint them they should be fine.

yea the coating normally keeps the calipers from rusting but when we ground off part it was rusty in a few days so yours may just be rubbed off or something ate it away like neo said. sand it down abit then get a brake painting kit from pepboys, duplicolor makes it and its pretty cheap. try not to go some crazy color, even going silver to keep stock is fine :)

Use something medium grit, like 60-180 with aluminum oxide or silicon carbide.
