View Full Version : stock gts tires

Getting my '02 gts in a couple weeks and I know very little about tires. The brochure says the car comes with "Yokohama Performance Radials, P205/50R16".

Are there different varieties of those tires? I want to read about them on the internet but can't find that exact tire. I see lots of high performance Yoko's on the net but nothing that is simply performance radials. I live in Canada and have moderate winter driving conditions. Are these all-season tires? Are they decent? I'm not into racing, just want to do some sporty city/highway driving with a decent, grippy tire.

Thanks!

Okay, I think the stock tires are A520's. Apparently, they're crap for winter driving. If that's true I have to buy some winter tires. I don't have a ton of $$ to spend (most is sunk into the car) so what should I get? Keep in mind I'm in Canada so all those US prices are going to be higher for me.

Pokgai:

Are those Yokohama Advan 680's on the 2002 GTS? Do you know any webpages that feature those tires?

pokgai:

Went to see my car today (stored at Toyota until Jun 28) and confirmed that the tires are indeed Yoko Advan A-680's.

Thanks again.

Yes, Yokohama A680. Tirerack has sold them from time to time.

They are horrible in the snow, they aren't much better in the rain. You will want snow tires.

The A680's on my GTS are great in the dry but not so good any other conditions. I live in Michigan and got winter tires. I got the Michelin Artic Alpines. There great in the snow but in the dry not so good. I have had my ABS kick in for no reason on several occations on dry stops.

I am not sure what I am going to get next but I don't think I will get either tire again.
