View Full Version : Winter Tires (and new wheels?)

First off, I don't know much about wheels or tires. I live in Canada and need a decent set of winter tires. My understanding is that the stock '02 GTS comes with Yoko Advens which aren't good for winter driving (correct me if I'm wrong).

If I put winter tires on, do I need to change my wheels as well? My dad was saying something about the breaking the seal between the tire and wheel and suggested I get some inexpensive wheels with the winter tires.

Can anybody educate me on this? Thanks.

The stock Yoko Avans are not good for winter driving. I grew up in the Pocono Mts. of Pennsylvania and I've driven enough snow to know. The stock wheels, on the other hand should be fine.

If you have the money, however, you may want to think about a tire/wheel set exclusively used for winter driving. Tirerack.com has a huge selection of winter tires, wheel covers, and a cheap set of wheels if you opt for my last suggestion. Shop around.
