Anyone know what lbs of torque does the front strut bar bolt need to be? and what about the exhause bolt?
Thanks

Make sure when you replace the strut bolts that you clean the surface of the tower and the bar. If dirt gets in there, you won't be able to tighten the bar as much.

And don't pinch the wiper washer hose under it, on the passenger side.

Not sure which exhaust bolt you are looking for.

Sorry for not being completely accurate.
If I actually owned a strut bar, I'd show that.
SA-33 has a good picture too. Everybody has access to it.

The exhaust torque specs are in there also.

I heard the proper way to install a strut bar is to have the front of the car jacked up (wheels on the air), so no weight is on the struts while installing it. You guys think its right?

I try to tighten the bolts more but the more i do it, it bends the bar.

Let me guess...Tanabe?
I have a Tanabe bar as well, and the bar bends up when i tighten it down. It was kind of a pita to put on by myself, but i got it on. I dont remember having that much trouble with it on my 02, but my 00 it def bends, as well as the ears that go over the struts, I just made it as tight as I could, with at least contact to the strut tower and a couple threads exposed on each stud. Im thinking i need to get different one, it just doesnt seem right to me.
Is this a known defect with the tanabe bar, should i get a different one, or just take it off, idk.
Neological, you seem to know something about this.

Yeah, the tanabe bar is a piece of trash, I used to own one. Luckily i only paid 50 bucks for it new. The attachment point for the strut towers bends like cheap plastic.

Thats exactly what i noticed the 2nd time around installing it. Maybe ill go with a RMM, er just take it off. thanks bro

mines looks like its from ebay. The tower of the bar just kinda bend the more i tighten it. I mean it is not flat so it suppost to bend, so i just tighten it enough where it wouldnt bend.

just download the celica manuals and check before doing any project. i used to just hand torque things and left it as it were but now i use the torque wrench for every project and check what specs it needs to be at before i start

...The tower of the bar just kinda bend the more i tighten it...If you look at the top of the strut tower on the car, you can see the depressions where the nuts are. It may pay to shim this up a little bit with a washer or two below the ring on the strut bar to keep the ring from bending while you torque it down.

I don't really think it matters if it bends, it's not in a way that affects how tightly the bar attached in any way. It's just shocking how poorly designed it is when you watch it bend as you screw it in. It also looks crappy.

Think about that for a sec. If you jack up the car and have the wheels off the ground, then take the bolts off the top that hold the shock tower to the frame, what do you think will happen? Id put my money on the fact that when you removed that last nut the shock tower would come crashing down.
When I put in my APR bar, I just opened the hood, took the six bolts off, put the bar on, and put the six bolts back in. I noticed that the APR bar itself (not the brackets) flexes a bit (I wouldnt call it bending), but unflexes the little bit when you loosen the bolts back off.
Long story short, for the love of god, dont jack up the front of the car, then take the bols off!

^^lol, great idea. i love that somebody told you to remove your strut bolts while the car's in the air. hahahahahaha

no need to guess on that, that is exactly what would happen. if you look at my guide, when i was removing the whole setup i put a 2nd jack under the bake hub that way when i removed the 3 top nuts i could then crank it down slowly. to reinstall the strut and the bar i jacked that setup back up then when it was pushed up completely i torqued it down. after it was all back together i lowered the car back to the ground and rechecked the torques.
but... if you are just putting on a strut bar, you dont need to jack up anything just make sure that you are flat ground and you torque it all down to the 29ftlb needed.

^^ that is only partly correct. read my post. if you just jack up the car then take off the bolts the strut falls down...
