thats just to put a 3 in Filter on a MAF, but it wouldnt even bolt up to our intakes

No.
The BB mod (use of OEM vaned MAF sensor housing) serves to direct and smooth airflow to the MAF sensor.
The MAF is calibrated with this housing, so alterting things will throw off the ECU's calculations of air mass, causing various driveability problems.
The same is true if you alter the location of the MAF or the diameter of the intake tube.

That Autozone part is actually for adding a cone filter to older AFM cars. I've got one on my MR2. :) AFAIK, there's nothing similar to the stock airbox's tube available, which is why it's still a DIY job.
