my toyota dealer recently gave me a new ECU cause the old one ('00 ECU) went bad. when i had the old one i was able to put it in Manual mode and turn off overdrive. now, when i have it in M mode and push the o/d button, nothing happens. o/d works perfectly fine in automatic. is this something that an '02 ECU does? what happens when you push the o/d button in M mode??
tell them about this .... i have heard that the 02 ecu is slightly differant in areas. Thats saying if they did put a 02 in there and did not know of the change.
My O/D stays off when I turn it off in M mode.. and I have a 2000. I guess you should talk to the dealer.

Isn't O/D just the 4th gear? I have an 01 and when in m mode i cant use o/d probably because there is no point, just shift to 4th for o/d or dont shift if you want it off. :) There, not too hard!

The o/d just makes it so it doesn't use 4th gear. It should work in either mode. If you are driving in 4th and click the o/d button it should downshift into 3rd. Try that. That's how my 2000 works at least.
Sidenote: You can also start in 2nd gear in M-mode if you are driving where it is snowy and wish to start in 2nd. Just push it over into M-mode, and click the "up" button. It'll start from a stop in either 1st or 2nd.

:P i know how my car works. ive been driving it for almost 2 years.
im not saying somethings wrong, i just wanted to know why it doesnt do it anymore. i guess they realized that it was pointless to have o/d come on when you can just not hit the extra upshift so they took it off of the newer models.

yeah i got that new ecu also and i think it does the same thing with the o/d. also i don't think this is the 02 ecu, since i redline at a tad over 8000.

i have an 01 and in m mode, o/d doesn't function. it's always been like that and i don't see the point of it in m mode.

Are you trying to say if you are in M mode while in 4th gear, you try to push o/d and it doesn't down shift to 3rd gear?

Now that i think about it, this topic is not making sense anymore. :)
