Offset and wheel spacers

Hi all,

Could anyone explaain to me whta is "offset" exactly? Does it have to do with wheelspacers?

To get new rims, I'm considering wheel and tire diameter and width, but how could offset and/or wheelspacer affect?

offset = distance (usu. in mm) between the mounting surface and centerline of the wheel. stock is 39mm. bigger numbers move the centerline of the wheel inboard, smaller numbers move it away from the car.

spacers essentially decrease offset...use a 5mm spacer with a 45mm offset wheel and it will end up positioned just like a 40mm offset wheel.
