i just want to know... how much rpm does the celica have when it runs on 120km/h? i want to purchase one.. but my dad is complaining how the gas price is $$$$ and he doesn't want me to get it if it revs really high... my standard for HIGH is like..

120km/h --> 3.5 = HOLY SH*T
" " /" --> 3.0 = Standard
" " /" --> < 3 = Nice nice

I drive a gts, but I think it is around 3-3.5
Not entirely sure though, as I go either less than 65mph or more than 85 mph...

depends on what kind of celica you getting. If its a GT automatic, you will get very good mileage. GT-s manual especially 02 and under doesnt give you that great of a mileage cus first off, you need to use 91 otctane plus the throtle cable tend to use a lil more gas than the drive by wire. Higher rev limiter.

I get 29mpg with my GT turbo, driving it normally, not pampering or babying it, but DRIVING the damn thing. So the stock will be better than that.

A) A GT manual will get better mileage than an automatic.
B) 2-way gets almost 40mpg on this 6spd GT-S.
C) ANY sort of mileage gains on a drive-by-wire compared to using a bowden cable is negligible.
D) A higher rev-limiter isn't going to affect the gas mileage unless the driver only upshifts right before fuel cut-off everytime.

120 km/h rounds off to about 74.6 m/h.

I have a 6 speed in my gt and curious how many rpm it is at 75 mph. Anybody with a 5 speed gt want to compare theirs with me? I'll have to check mine tomorrow.

imo shift at 3k and you'll save hella gas. i drive a gt-s 6 speed and i used to fill up every 5 or 6 days and now my gas lasts me 2 weeks lol

If the 74.6mph calculation is correct, then the 5speed GT is around 3.75K RPM at that speed, on the 5th gear that is.

If you're so concerned about saving gas then don't drive that fast :shrugs:

I thought some study said optimal gas consumption was around 55mph. But I guess that changes with how many gears you have.

If you want just any car to save gas, get the new Toyota Yaris 1.3 or o hybrid

If you want a celi, get it, and save gas by getting a 6-speed GT not GT-S. I never drove a gt-s, but I know that GT It has fantastic driving experience, much better than my brother's brand new Mazda3

Dude, you have to remember that a 6-speed GT will only be a reality in North America if someone swapped one in from a GT-S, not like in Europe. As far as I know Canada also gets a 5-speed GT. As far as mileage goes, the 6-speed GT-S isn't that far off the GT. Either would be a good choice.

I believe the Celica would be HOLY SH*T+ since I think it's between 3.5k or 4k at 120km/h but that doesn't mean it has bad gas mileage, as everyone has already said, the rpms at highway speed don't effect mileage nearly as much as displacement, power, throttle position, etc.

Well I just tested my gt 6 speed and at 75mph it does 3250 rpm in 6th gear.

]I didnt know that GTs never came with 6speeds in US, I thought that 5speed GTs were only the first ones, my bad.

like someone else here said - slow down

it will take exponentially more gasoline to go 65 compared to 55, and exponentially more to go 75 instead of 65

that said - the Celica gets great gas mileage.

And THAT said, the difference in a year between 20 and 30 mpg is merely $400.

2way get 39mpg in his 6spd GTS.

he's got the 6-speed.... and 2way is masterful in the art of gas saving.

but yeah, if you drive your car smoothly, you'll get good mileage... though hitting lift is addicting.

not really mtn's but a lot of hills. Go up route 41a sometime, it's scenic, windy, and a lot of fun to drive on.

it's very hilly here. i'm getting bored of it. haha

You're supposed to use 93 or 95...read the owner's manual or your gas door,sir.

91 is just 87 mixed with turds.

My 00 GT-S 6-Speed gets really good gas mileage and I have some engine mods done too...and I pass people DAILY on the way to work.

I can only get 91 octane tops in Cali.

I find it incredibly hard to shift below 4k rpm. I step on the gas just a little and I'm already at 4k rpm. I'm serious. Part of that is from the low end torque I picked up from the PFC and having a lightweight flywheel, lightweight 15" rims along with my other mods. Also my car is completely gutted and I usually drive around with 1/4 tank of gas or less.

I always shift at around 3-3.5K, get good enough milage.
