Does anyone get a slight knock when letting out the clutch at 1st gear. The only way to get rid of the knock is to launch at 2500rpms. I took it to the dealer and they told me that it could be the belt tensioner so they are going to replace it this saturday.
The weird part is i went from 10w30 to 5w30 and it went away for like 5 days and now it is back. I put 93 octain all the time in my tank. Is there a sensor that could be messed up , i have no idea . Ive tried everything from octain booster to fuel cleaner and nothing will get rid of the ping.
I the messed up part is i just bought this car in march and its got 4500miles now .
If toyota cant figure this out or no one on this board ive decided to get rid of the car and sell it . oh yeah i forgot to add the engine will really knock like its not getting any fuel and then squeal for a sec and then once i get going it stops. It is really bad when letting the clutch out on a hill .

2002 celica gts , 6speed

Mine does that too, also a 2002 6-speed. I thought I was just not launching properly. I'll see what my dealer says. I only have 500 miles on mine.

Why would it work fine letting the clutch out around 1500 rpms now it needs 2000 + not to get the knock ping???
i get a horrible knocking sound from my engine

it really could be a lot of things, i doubt its the belt tensioner pulley. higher octane woul dhelp, also pull your spark plugs and takea look at them. im thinking that maybe your coil pack may be on the fritz..give me more info..mileage, last fuel filter change, what gapping on teh plugs, wires, etc etc

run codes on it at the dealership. dont' leave until its gone..you don't want a lean condition in a car tht needs high rpm's to make its power.

no check engine light comes on or anthing
the car runs normal i took it up to 120 max today and its stock.
I do hear a loud tapping noise on the left side of the engine. Also i use 93 octain all the time. Ill ahve them diagnoise it but i doubt they will find anything. it never really did it before and it is worse when the ac is blowing

Check engine lights won't pick up a lean condition unless its causing noticeable problems and giving the o2 sensors hell.

loud tapping noise is your lifters most likely. if the noise goes away once the motor heats up, its' normal.

also, grow up, and stop driving 120 on public roads.

well now that i have a celica i guess ill live with it for the next 5 years until i dump it to its next victim of toyota crap engine

i should of bought a 2002 maxima 6 speed

hopefully the engine will crap out after 3 years and toyota will rebuild it, since they dont want to fix it right the first time

I replied to one of your other two posts about this in the newbie zone, check it out. Also, you mentioned the AC in this post. Since you are already putting too much strain on your engine by launching it at such a low rpm, the AC is going to make it worse because the engine is under even more load when it is on. Sorry that you don't like your engine, but 1500 rpm is just too plain low to launch your car at with it. The engine just isn't making enough power at 1500 rpm to get the 2500 lb car moving properly. That is why you hear the pinging noise in the engine, the engine is under too much strain. It talks about this in the owners manual. Again, I'm sorry that you don't like the engine, but the 7600rpm redline should have been a red flag for you that you need to rev it up to get any power from it. I would suggest that you start taking off at least at 2500rpm, if you continue to let the clutch out at such a low rpm you could wear your bearing journals and the pinging will become permanent.
