I'm about to scrap all efforts and have the damn car towed somewhere to have the brakes bleeded. Heres the deal!

We have been trying to bleed (whenever we have time) for over a month now, with NO luck. First there was air in the lines, we found out the bleeder cap was sucking in air through the threads. So trying to jimmy rig it, we used some teflon tap on the screw. Thats fixed that, no more air. To this day, not a bubble, MAYBE 1 small microscopic bubble, comes out sometimes when we gravity bleed them.

We reseached and asked a friend, he said the master cylinder may have air in it. So we un-did the two lines and depressed the brake slowly, first ALOT of air, almost no liquid came out, then some liquid. He put his fingers on the two holes as I released the brake pedal to keep air from going back in. Repeated 4 times.

We are trying the master cylinder again tomorrow several times. The main problem is that when the car is off, as in not running, the brake is VERY firm. Once we start the car, it is a limp noodle; absolutely no resistence, almost as if there was no fluid in the lines at all.

Any tips? Pointers? Comments? I'm lost, and personally just wunna drive the blasted car already.

Yeah... I have a pointer... there is a recall on the brake master cylinder. Take it to the dealership, tell them you have problems and if there is a TSB. There is one... they'll replace your master cylinder due to the leak problem associated with them.

They'll give you a new master cylinder, plus bleed the brakes for you correctly....all.... FREE!

Now that I think about it, it was dripping some of the fluid at some point. There was a tiny puddle on the floor, and the bottom of the cylinder was wet.

Hmm, I will be talking with Toyota tomorrow...

Nope, bled the brakes themselves and the master cylinder twice...ZERO luck...car only stops (slowly) when it is almost to the floor...we took it for it's first spin, and it's pretty depressing that we still can't get hte brakes right.

It's enough brakes to get us to Toyota, so thats all I care about...

You have to bench bleed the master first then RR-LR-RF-LF making sure you keep the master resavoir full the whole time.

sounds like your master cylinder is going.
