OK my headlight socket burned out due to the fact that the black insulator thing that u plug the light into wasnt there. It is my fault I know bc I didnt relieze that u had to plug it into that.It must have happened when that side went out or something. Anyways they told me o i need the whole wiring hares for 700. Then they decided that they could somehow fix it some other way by soddering it back together with another part. They said an hours labor + the part. 1st off it was suppose to be done Friday when i dropped it off but i said i was going to NYC for the day i'd pick it up saturday. I went up there Saturday and the car isnt done!! No one even called me to tell me this. I call the guy this morning and he said 250. He said they were charging me 3 hours of labor for the guy LOOKING for the part. Its ridiculous to charge me for labor for some guy looking for a part, I would have looked for the part if i knew that. What the hell? They cant do this right?

Yeah they pretty much can. I'd take the car to another mechanic and get another estimate for the jerry-rigged fix. Just tell them you aren't interested in them doing the work at this point , take the car and roll out. Just do it in the daytime!

Most states require a written estimate if the charges will be over $50.

If that is the case, and you didn't have (and sign) the estimate, then you can probably give them a hard time.

If you had already agreed to the $700, and they did it for half of that, then be happy.

i had one of my EVAP hoses disconnected by accident (my fault)... took the car to toyota when the CEL came on... they found a CEL, found out what it was, did the diagnostic checks one by one, found the leak and reconnected the hose... they charged me the diagnostic fee ($89) since it was my fault.

why shouldn't i pay it.. it wasnt their fault it was mine. sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own when you start touching your car.

when i got the suspension done i took it to a shop an hour and a half away to install everything... they put it in, and it was all good. now if anything goes wrong guess who the car goes back to?

Yeah i understand it was my fault and i am more than happy to pay for it. I just dont think i should have to pay 3 hours @ 75 dollars for some guy just looking for the part. They told me an hours labor + the part

make sure they warrantee their work. Then go firebomb them and assume a new identity.
