:werd: Just wipe everything down really well and it should look 100% better. I just wipe my engine down with a rag soaked in Meguires interior detailer once a week and it stays looking clean.

are you guys sure it's ok to wet even the distributor and alternator when cleaning your engine? i know some parts must not be wet-ed but correct me if i'm wrong.

They way i do it is got to a car wash use the engine cleaning step. Cover my air filter and my battery with a towel and then soak it with the cleaning solution let it sit for 2 minutes then power wash it off after that wipe it all dry then use a interior detail spray to give the plastics a shiny look. :gap:

Wala clean engine lol

Yea Yea cheap Megan strut bar lol

The last time I washed my engine was 2 years ago almost to the date. I just covered the battery, intake filter and alternator then pressure washed away.

This is now, wipe once a week with a rag.

oh sorry hahaha... i thought even FI engines use distributor? what are celica's using then? pardon my ignorance :D i'm just learning and haven't taken a detailed look at the engine bay :D

The Celica uses direct ignition, controlled by the ECU. Look at the pic of my engine bay, you can see the individual coils on top of the valvecover.

Intake manifold didn't look too bad when I first put it in more than 2 years ago. Alas, haven't washed the engine since september 2006 :(

I have no underbody plastics and I have never powerwashed my engine. Just a quick wipe down every week and it stays clean. Here is a pic:

how do you get your intake manifold to be chrome like that? That is some serious rubbin!

a lot of sanding and polishing!;)

I have been dying to do that myself...maybe you can make me a guide hehe...did you use a drill with wire wheels or by hand? It seems pretty easy to take that manifold off ..is it?

You need to sand the runners starting with 300 grit then 400,600,800,1000,1500,2000, and then wetsand with 2500 grit. You must wetsand with the 2500 or it won't shine. After you are finished sanding polish them up with some aluminum polish until they are shiny. For the polishing I used a Mothers Mini Powerball with the Mothers aluminum polish. It made that step alot easier.

I did the polishing with the manifold on the car!

i want to pressure wash my engine with a hose, i tried couple days ago.
but i only hosed down the engine and the strut towers, and not at all where the computer and the battery is.
i really want to soak it good and use a degreaser, cuz my engine bay is really dirty.
i think when i bought it they used spray to make it look shiny, but it quickly traped dirt and oil!!

so i guess i'll cover my battery and i have CAI, so i cant really cover it so i'll just try not to aim there.
Where is the alternator? can some1 post pics??
i have GT auto btw

GT'02
10-09-2008, 04:09 PM
first off, cover your CAI? how bout a plastic bag, and some tape... second,... you serious about your alternator?? :chuckles: sorry, but really??! look along your belt.. it's the alternator looking thing in the front......... ;)

yongman

i kinda had a guess what alternators were, but now i know.
its under the engine plastic. i was kinda scared to get that thing wet.
good thing i didnt soak it.
i think i will cover my CAI with bag and tape. thanks, thats a good idea.
i just dont want to pry out my wheel well plastics...

hopefully i can get a pic up soon!
