Well, good news!!! This place means business!!! They told us the car will be good to go in 2-3 weeks. We are all excited!!! David told me they will be using a new turbo also. The same Turbo they use in the Audi TT. Its amazing I drove a TT for 3 weeks and let me tell you... its great!!!. Its good to 18.5psi and it spools @ about 1800rpm.

WOW!!!

Will post more details when possible.

Take care guys,

FLAME AWAY!!!

i haven't really been foolowing this thread althoguh i have been checking up on it, waiting to see a post about final stages in production.......ok, so i must ask the frequent question.......how much for the turbo and install again......price range would be nice.....is this kit gonna be availible for mass production or will the customers have to come to WC for the kit....if it is made for mass production, what is the ease of installation?.....will any knowledgable shop be able to put the kit in since very few people in the US have experience with 7th gen Gt-s Celis and turbos.....im really interested as long as the price and gains are reasonable......plus durability....

Oo DaRk StAr oO
06-18-2002, 12:40 AM
100% Bolt on, 3500 bucks per kit, installation should cost 500, not for the GTS... it starts spooling at 1800 rpm whereas the T28 spools around 2800.

The turbo on the TT is good fun, killed a little by the quattro system though, no such worries on the Celica :D

God I miss that TT it was sh!t fun!!!

in the "how to buy a turbo" guide in last months SCC they say that turbo lag is a GOOD thing for FWD cars... reason? obviously b/c you cant use 500 HP right off the bat.. but once you stick you have a better chance of delivering the power to the ground without having the rubber follow.

Great job Matt! You know you got me excited! :D

But I agree with Larry and GTS Laid...spool at 1800rpms??? That's great, but man that's too soon. It sounds like the turbo is gonna be smaller than a stock Eclipse GS-T/GSX.

Cure our questions by telling us how a light car like ours needs spool under 2000rpms.

I'm sorry we all seem to jump you about stuff when you tell us the "new developments" but since we all aren't in the shop to talk to the guys we give you our opinions and then we hope that you pass them on. :)

Its just like an AudiTT or 1.8T. The turbo starts spooling right away. The thing thats great about it, is if you've ever driven an AudiTT the feeling is amazing. Oncethe car starts going you feel the torque kick in then at about mid RPM range its pulling hard. Its the same turbo that comes in the stock AudiTT 1.8T so its the same exact size of turbo be were using before. As for the high HP... were only talking 250hp at the most here were not throwing 400hp at the car right away it will be awesome.

Here's a stupid question...does it just start creating boost @1800rpm or is it full boost @1800? If it's full boost, then that might be a problem.

celicauk
06-18-2002, 01:40 PM
I think Matt means it will stsart producing boost at 1800, I guess it will peak and hold from about 4k depending on wastegate setup.

06-18-2002, 01:43 PM
I think you mean it starts boosting at 1800

That same turbo is used on teh 1.8T for what, the jetta, passat, golf, etc. They are all fwd cars, it shouldn't be a prob. Even when monkied around with a boost controller, it should still be ok. And it's a garret turbo if I'm not mistaken, so it should be top notch as well.

correction.. you'll probably have more problems with traction than those cars considering they're heavier cars so theres more force of those drive tires in the front.

larryd
06-18-2002, 11:30 PM
i thought you meant it hit full boost at 1800, that woulda been way to fast for it to spool..

you say though that its only gonna be 250hp, well 250hp on a 2400lb car is enuf to spin the tires through 3rd gear.. trust me on that one

Oo DaRk StAr oO
06-18-2002, 11:31 PM
I have full suspension set up so it will be interesting to see what happens. Thats going to be crazy amount of power on a FWD 2400lbs car.

larryd
06-18-2002, 11:33 PM
i mean just a point of reference for you.. take my old Celica

2500 lbs + full body kit + 16" drag radials
spraying 50 shot of nos kit from 3000rpms till 8000rpms. total hp in the car with the nitrous kit was prolly around 210-220hp and I would spin into 3rd using the nitrous..

umm.. looks like we have some expirementing to do. Wonder if wheel hop will come into play also.

larryd
06-18-2002, 11:51 PM
wheel hop can be eliminated with the right suspension setup and tire pressure.. if nothing else then traction bars.. itll just give Hotchkis something else to build :)

06-19-2002, 12:25 AM
Ive got Apexi Coils, Front Strut Bar, Rear Strut Tower, and Hotchkis Sways... think I have a good combo?

larryd
06-19-2002, 12:34 AM
sounds pretty good.. but mind you. I have Koni shcks, GC coils, RM Sway bars, front/rear struts on my Eclipse and I still get wheel hop :)

Oh yeah... LSD too in a month or two

06-19-2002, 05:53 AM
3500 for a turbo kit? that sounds decent to me. i hope everything works out :) in reference to the spin issue i would think i got set of radials/slicks would help. if anything why don't you add some weight to the front-end. kinda like that super looper fast supra that has weights on the back to keep it from flying. i dunno...

What a Ko3 turbo..!...That's a very small turbo....they are swaping those at 20v forum its limited to 215whp at full blast....!

We'll it'l be a nice upgrade for a 6psi system turning 200whp very responsive.....WC should go with a T25-28 Hybrid from the Nissan Pulsar GT or 90-95 Sylvia.....it's good for 280whp and fast spooling.....They can get a bundle with Pontiac as they used those hybrids for the early 90's turbo Grand Prix..!

its not limited to that HP number...turbos are limited to boost numbers

if it takes 8 psi to make 400 hp...the turbo could do it.

T25 are discontinued. The T28 is what we where going for but nbody will have over 6psi unless they do an upgrade package.

We are shooting for 240 crank... thats 215whp @ 6psi. So we'll be fine. Main difference is look at what PSI we are at.

As long as you stick to the facts and not make-believe stories ( http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26844 ), you don't haveta worry about getting flamed. ;) In any case, hopefully everything will go according to plan with the turbo kit. Good luck with that.

MilinGTS.. actually turbos arent limited by boost either.. you can run 50lbs on any turbo.. how efficient it is is another story.. the CFM it flows is how its rated.. and most turbo's are actually rated with WHP.. like I know my turbo is good for around 350whp, if I want more then that I have to upgrade the turbo because im maxing it out..

Oo DaRk StAr oO.. the T25 is not disco'd.. infact Mazdaspeed will be using the T25 on its new turbo'd MP3

I'm sure it was the T25 that was being disco'd thats why David didn't want to use them. I could be wrong.

that turbo from the audi tt would be a perfect match for the auto GT guys

i think you would want something a bit more traditional with a little more lag for the 5-speed GT guys (and for the auto GT guys who want insane power)...they already have the best torque off the line of all the celicas, plus their light weight. add a turbo like the audi TT one, and they'll never get off the line, unless you put a few grand into a drag suspension and slicks (not DRs).

The turbo found in the AWD (engine code, not all-wheel drive) 1.8T Jetta, Golf, GTI, VW Beetle is the K3 turbo. It maxes its effeciency at around 1bar, or 14lbs. My friend has a modified Jetta, he's maxing around 210-220WHP right now. The car looses its kick at about 5500RPMs, so the this turbo does not flow in the top-end.

However, the Audi TT's K4 turbo on the AWW engine is good for 1.4bar of boost or about 19-20lbs. This turbo flows far better than the K3 does and doesn't die in the top-end. My friend is swapping the K4 into his car because the turbo bolts right into the manifold. This motor produces 225BHP in stock form versus the K3's 150/180BHP (depending on year). The lag on a K4 is a litlte deeper, but full boost is reached at or near 3500RPMs or so from what I've seen.
