Has anyone had any experience with General Altimax HP tires? Pretty much all of the reviews on www.thetirerack.com are very positive. I need an all season tire for where I live, and unless I get a lot of negative feedback here, I'll probably buy them. Comes with a $50 visa giftcard too -- not bad.

Here is a link to the General (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+HP&partnum=05HR6AMAXHP&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&place=21&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=H) tire.

I was also looking at the Continetnal ContiProContact (mostly because buying 4 of those would get me a free gps -- I don't need it really, just would be cool to have). The reviews on that tire are slightly less positive, but has anyone here had any experience with them?

Here is a link to the Continental (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiProContact&partnum=05VR6CPC&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&place=1&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=H) tires.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have the HP series, but the next ones down. The Altimax RT's. When I had my tires replaced at the Toyota dealer, the guy I knew there recommended them to me and for the price, they're really good tires. Overall nice handling and ride quality, wet or dry. Also, my brother's Nissan Pathfinder has General Grabber AW tires, and he's never had a complaint about them.

So between the two, Continental vs General, I'd give my vote to General.

i used asx's i loved them very sticky even way past the wear indicators. almost bald and the car handled great, excet in the rain.
i wouldnt put Continental or General on my car
i have used hankook ventus hr2, kumho asx, now sumitomo htr+
i prefer unidrectional tires because i have a 5th wheel for a spare and is my dd. it sucks to have a spare that will only roll 1 way

On the ASX's, how was the wet traction when the tires were new? That is a complaint I'm seeing on thetirerack.com. I definitely need a tired that handles well in the rain.

I had the General Exclaim UHP tires on 19's with my accord and I have to admit that these tires were great for the price.

The only thing is, I live in sunny san diego and I don't think it compares to where you are as far as weather goes. The few times it rained it stuck to the road pretty well. During dry weather, I have no complaints about it. I recommend it!

These will be my next purchase as soon as I can wear out the Prada spec 2 tires I have on right now...

I have no problem in the rain with them. However i stay the speed limit when its raining hard so i can't say too much past that.
