This is for anyone interested in Dooly's new S7 replica gauges. I am very satisfied with them and think it looks spectacular in the evening. Forewarning: Image quality is terrible. I had to use my cell phone. I can get more pics with better quality and less light trails if anyone would like to see more. For those familiar with the LED upgrades, you already know that the lights are not as bright as the pictures make them out to be. Any questions, ask. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for all of the compliments. :)

what did those run you?

I went with many things all at once. It was a grand total of around $350 maybe - A/C, auto indicator, window switch, dome light, gauges, blinker package, cigarette lighter, etc. I don't have the receipt on hand or else I'd be more precise. Shoot Dooly a quick PM though; I'm sure he'd set you straight. In case it isn't obvious, I went with the white LEDs for the gauges with blue indicators and blinkers. However, I did leave a couple of the indicators white where it seemed appropriate, such as the fuel light, for one.

DAE so the material used in these is like metalic like the S7 were?

I'm just having a problem with my s7's being a little bit too dark (anyone else have this).

How much did you pay just for the guage replacement w/ LED/s?

Hey, sorry. There was a lightning storm on Sunday that caused a power outage and, well, let's just say Verizon is awesome......

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the original S7 in person, only the online pictures. I had wanted to purchase them for the longest time and then was dissuaded when I heard they weren't exactly desired for their longevity. So I'm not sure about your first question. I know the numbers have a speckled look to them when they are illuminated...I don't know how to explain it except that it almost looks like static. It's pretty neat.

As far as the price goes, I don't have my invoice in front of me or handy, I think it was about or around $200-250. I know I had one of the first orders and no template was available, so maybe that will affect the pricing? Shoot Dooly a PM; I'm sure he'd help you out.

what did you use to paint your needles, or did you just strip em and leave em clear? its hard to tell with the cell phone shots

The needles were a little fun to play with. I went to Wal-mart's craft section to find some kind of paint that might work well. I ended up buying 4 different acrylic paints from Folk Art. Once I got back to my place, I poured out a little of each to decide which shade of blue I thought would look best. My final selection was their Outdoor Opaque Cobalt - 1631. It doesn't say for plastic, but it is weatherproof and UV resistant. It applied to the needle a little thick with a paint brush, so I had to let it dry and use some nail polish remover with a q-tip and slowly took off a few layers until it was clean and thin. I also intentionally left about a 1/4" of the bottom unpainted to give the needles a slightly different look at night. I think it turned out pretty well.

That blue on the needles looks so pretty!

how thin did the paint end up being on the needles? looks pretty slick though. ive been messing around using acrylic paint pens, and also tried a blue sharpie with whiteout behind it... ehhh, not so good lol. the pens work great though. i want my needle to light up, but im trying to avoid an added led cluster behind the needle.

It was pretty thin. I would say as close to 1-2 solid layers as possible. I don't know if you can remember what the factory orange strip looked like, but I tried my best to duplicate it (though, as I had mentioned, I left the bottom unpainted).

Let me suggest this. Put a nice, thick layer on and then use non-acetone nail polish remover. Dip a q-tip in it and brush the needle upwards in quick strokes. You'll probably go through a few q-tips in the process. This will ensure that it spreads evenly and is a relatively easy way to thin it out as desired. Let dry at least 10 minutes and then use some more q-tips with the remover scrubbing all of the sides clean until they are crystal clear.

I'm sure you already know this, but I'll throw it out there for those who may be unaware: several paint technicians have indicated to me that perhaps the most critical part of any painting is thoroughly cleaning your object. So when painting the needles, or any part of your car, make sure it is as clean as can be (which means, in this case, all of the old paint is entirely removed and the needle is extremely clear). If that doesn't work, I would reconsider the specific kind of paint you are using. Maybe switch brands or kinds.

Here is better pictures..
The price is $190 this is more complicated then most other gauge face.... so it's little bit higher then average....

Left side gauge is back lit with white LED and right side is with blue LED...
With LED seem look the best in my opinion...

Outer ring is printed with silver.. it's metallic finish, so it has little shine to it...

Hi. Am interested in the guages. Possible to ship to Singapore? Thanks.

Btw, the model I'm currently on is similar to the GT model in US. Best if can convert it to km/h. Would prefer style 39 with rpm guage on the left.

Thanks.

p/s: Can pm me as well.
