Autoweek states the Celica is in for a redesign in the 2004 model year. That gives the 7th gen Celica a 4 year run. Compared to the 6th gen which ran between 1994-1999, 6 years, and the 5th gen which ran for 4 years, 1990-1993.

Wow, thats a bit strange since this generation celica probably has outsold most of the previous ones and is still sturring up more insterest. I doubt they'll do much to the car, maybe a little bit of an outward change and a different transmission.
Some different rear lights would be cool though.

The 2004 is facelift not a redesign. Product cycles for Toyota's is about 5 years for their cars, but cars that are not volume seller's like Camry's and Corolla's are around 6 to 7. It would be to costly to change the Celica after 4 years when they sell 30-40,000 Celica's a year unlike Camry's which sell 400,000+ a year..

Technically the Celica had a facelift in 2002 with the "Action Package".

A four year cycle sounds reasonable. The Celica is built off the Corolla platform. Since the new Corolla is coming out in '02, Toyota can take the Corolla and turn it into the '04 Celica. That would make it very profitable for Toyota. The Corolla shares platform w/ the RAV4, Celica, and the Matrix. Toyota can't help but make money off these cars.
I just hope that they don't mess up the next Celica. Look what happened to the Eclipse.

True, so 2004 seems about right for a redesign, possibly to be based on the 2003 Corolla platform.

It's gonna have 350HP, AWD, and weigh only 2,200 lbs (with an 8speed tranny, too):D
I can't wait to see how they improve on the 7th Gen. Hopefully there will be some significant changes and options.

There was a rumor that Toyota was going to bring back the Trueno, and that it would possibly replace the Celica sometime between 2004-2006. It would be nice to have a FR sport compact car especially if the handling is as good as the famous AE86.

I highly doubt it will be done in 2004. Autoweek is just guessing, Toyota hasnt said jack and it's not logical to do it with how well the car is selling.
TRD liquid silver makes some reasonable arguements. It is incrediblely expensive to redesign and start production of a new car. They wouldnt do it after 4 years unless it totally bombed, and they last celica proves that the level for bombing is really low ;)

Manufacturers are already thinking of the next carnation of the vehicle soon after it's release, because it takes a few years to develop the next model from concept drawings to production model.

True but they have to recoup the costs of starting a new line before starting production of a new one. They may have ideas but they wont move forward that fast on a car that is selling so well.

I am sure, if anything, it will just be a minor face lift and some upgraded options, like 17" wheels, maybe a 2.0l engine, some techno gadgets like the digital climate control, GPS, etc.

What really gets me is the 6th gen Celica ran for 6 years. That's a long time for a car that didn't sell well at all, was slow and grossly overweight. Not to mention, ugly:( .

I hope they do change it, I love this design. They're just gonna go with the mainstream and make the new one look like a freaking UFO like all the other car companies are doing.

The current Celica is cutiing edge design, sets us apart from the rest of the cars you see on the road. It's a like it or hate it design. That's what I like about our car:D.

Acutally the newest Corolla platform came out in 2000, in Japan, then later other Asian markets in 2001.
If only Toyota didn't pull the GT4 in 1994. But other markets, including the JDM, got a 170 bhp 3S-GE to boot also, instead of the 135 bhp 5S-FE we got here.

Isn't the Corolla getting a new platform for 2003? I think the next Celica will be built on the next Corolla platform:confused:.
Bat.
I'd be interested in seeing what Toyota comes up with for the next Celica:rolleyes: .
