i've never had a road long enough, straight enough or empty enough to test, but i guess it would do 150 after a very long time and if lift was hit in 6th gear.

Actually you'd need good power mods for lift to be usable in 6th gear, so make it a long, straight, empty and downhill road. 6th is such a small gear that even in lift it can't overcome the drag in stock form. Most topspeed runs were achieved in 5th. I think the gearing on 6th is good enough for 167 (to fuel cut) if I'm not mistaken.

I think the offical specs claimed 147 (stock). Unless you have a stupid amount of open flat road you won't see over 120 though. 105 is where I cut it off and I haven't done that in over a year. Its not worth it.

when i first got the car, i took it to Balmorhea(a swimming hole about 75 miles north of here). theres a straight, level road that goes for about 6 miles, my stupid auto kicked up to just under 145(with header, ported head, cat delete, unbolted axle exhaust, cai, and a damn good wax job). i was at about 6600rpm, the auto just wouldnt get to the redline... :(

took him 30 minutes to catch up to me only becouse two big rigs where blocking trafic

cop sayd that was the most action he had seen in a looong time
he was gonna cut me some slack and lower the speed to a speed that wouldnt end up having my car impunded

after that i rarely ever took my car over 100

usually stay no more than 10 miles over speed limit

I dont see a reason to try it, ive never gone past 100, but back in HS i took my moms avalon to 140, couldve gone more but i think it ran out of gearing, then my mkII mr2 went up to its 120 but the rpm was slowly still climbing

WTF!? I thought the top was around 135? That's what I read, and that's about where mine topped out at? With a CAI and some sort of exhaust haha. 6spd.
And it was a really long straight away (highway) in the middle of the night. HM. DAMN, I am a speed junkie and haha if I had better tires on I'd def wait up to 1-2 am or so and go hit the highway to see if it'll go faster.

since this was a road that rarely sees any cars
and the cop did say he had fun trying to catch up to me and had it not been for the two big rigs he wouldnt have cought up XD
he was kind enough to lower the speed down to 115 in a 85 had he written it down at what i was actually going my car would have been towed and my licence revoked
but like i said he was a cool cop :wiggle: and since he had fun he sayd just slow down

think i only payed 300 something for the ticket
after that i never went over 10 miles over speed limit anywhere XD

i had that happen me and few friends where going home from the races 3 cars doin about 130 for like 4 miles and two exits before mine i slow down get down to speed limit as soon as i get to mine exit a see those blue and red lights every one dreads cop was cool tho he said he didnt clock me and said if i didnt slow down he would have never caught up to me so he wrote me a pace ticket for 90 in a 70 and i payed layer like 200 and got that taken care of, some cops are cool

I think the fastest I've ever gone was 110 all the way from Atlanta to Memphis in the middle of the night. Never saw a cop the entire trip. would have gone faster but the civic had a top speed limiter

there is no way you hit 145 i've read a few places that the top speed of the car is like 135 and top speed is top speed your gears can go any higher and you would need like 10 mile stretch of straight road to hit that after 115 it climbs really slow not to mention your location is pa there are no road around pa that is that straight, doesn't go up hill alittle or is in amazing condition...lets face it wind resistance and only 180 hp dont like each other

Yeah I read 135 also. I've been wondering if people were just too concentrated on driving that they read 140+ instead of 130. It does climb SLOOWW after about 115 or so. When I was at 135 there was no getting it faster, and I was on a dead empty flat highway @ 2AM.

I think the gearing on 6th is good enough for 167

on stock 16" wheels and 45mm sidewall. we calculated 19's with 35mm sidewall (my setup) and it came to 197mph. i think my car is probably capable of that with over 500whp, but it will never be attempted.

it's alot easier to reach that speed if your wingless, which he is. it's got less drag, but your car will wander a bit more. Gearing will let you get just about up to 170, but no stock celica has that power capable of getting there, and I wouldn't want to hit lift in 6th pushing it.. that could be detrimental to the car running in a .7 gear for that long. it's alot of stress.

yea....I'm sure that took it from 10 mins to 9 and half mins. Let's be real, removing your wing isn't making a noticeable difference in getting a sub 200 whp car up to 145 faster. This place is always good for a laugh that's for sure. At those speeds...hp and torque is going to push that car. Ever seen an LSx motor run? I've been able to hold them off up to 120, after that, they are walking HARD as if they hit a whoop ass switch

I brought my car to exactly 140 with a passenger in the car. Car's completely bone stock nothing done to it. Idk if it would of hit 145 but it would have taken a while. Ive read 135 also, but I did faster and I'm 100% positive. BTW stock, original tires also.

then again i was in a gt a gt-s should have a slightly easyer time.

Back when i still had my original engine in my 00 gts i hit just over 140 with 4 full size guys in the car including me of course and it didn't take that long at all. After i blew that engine and now i have an 02 engine in it, i can't even get that close at all.

It should be at 135. I have no idea where people are getting these other numbers from. Why would you guys want to go that fast anyways? I haven't taken my Maxima past 90.
