View Full Version : Celica's Going Bye Bye, but I Got Some New Company

Well, I guess Yakko can chalk up another mark for someone on this board getting rid of their Celica.
If you check the "For Sale" forum then you'll know that my Celica is currently for sale. Not feeling too bad though cause I just got myself a primo condition 1991 White Supra Turbo with low miles and I'm having a blast with it right now. Engine runs exceptionally well, the car has been babied by two Supra collectors in its lifetime. I also got about a pound of records on the car dating all the way back to '91. Oh yeah, I am 19 and I paid for this baby myself. It's my first car purchase and I couldn't be happier. :D Man did I have a sick feeling in my stomach handing over the cashiers check with all that money written on it :puke:. The insurance wasn't fun either, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Sorry to be a deserter, but I just gotta have torque ;)

They are nice cars I just about bought one before I bought my WRX the turbo is nice in those cars. Not real fast 0-60 times but up top those things just keep pulling and pulling... Congrats on your purchase.

why didnt you get the last gen supra?? there are tons of them out there
F22-Raptor
06-19-2002, 08:11 AM
The reason he didn't get a 4th gen is because they are expensive as crap after the F&F and for a car that is only worth about 13-16k they want 30-50k. I will never pay that for a used car with 60-100k on it. Especially if someone else has tinkered with it.

Yeah, the mkIV is a LOT more expensive then the mkIII. Sure, it'd be great to have a mkIV, but they cost as much or even more then the new Celica. Even the '93 is selling for $17-19k, which is the same price range we got the Celica GT-S for. Not to mention the different insurance bracket. The mkIII's insurance costs are the same as a Camry's of the same year.
The '91 I just picked up had 86k miles and the thing is absolute mint. As soon as the digi-cam from work becomes available I'll be sure and snap some shots. I have been looking for a mkIII for quite some time now and when I saw this one I just couldn't let it go. So I paid almost blue book for it at $6500. Worth every penny IMO, not only does it look and run great, but it came with the a huge stack of records to show why it's running so good. Nothing like confirmation of great maintainence care.
I'll still be on the boards, as the time I had with the Celica I researched quite a bit about it and could probably still offer help and what not. See you guys around!
Oh yeah, and Vroom_Vroom, the car's in great shape, has the Targa, 5spd, turbo, and is the white one with the white package. Just keep looking, they're out there, I got very lucky as I picked this one off someone in my town. One thing, though, you gotta be aggressive. If you see a nice looking one in a parking lot, stop and wait for the owner to come out and ask if it's for sale. With cars like these it's usually the broken/breaking ones that make it into the paper, so you gotta find someone who is on the edge of selling. I found someone who commutes far away and needed a car with better fuel economy. Keep looking and ye shall find :chuckles: As for me, I'm just gonna keep BOOSTING!!

Congratulations. Someone I knew had one of those and it was tight, fast as hell too, even stock.

Just make sure you check the Head Gasket and if it is ok torque it down tighter...It was a chronic prob with mkIII supras

I love the MKIII's! I'm jelous. My dad had one and OMG, that thing was fast. I plan on getting a supra as well. I'm saving up for a MKIV TT 6-speed (stock hopefully) but damn that Fast and Furious movie!!! Congratulations though. They're good cars.

Sorry, I've been hearing too much sh*t from hotshot autocrossers who are just too much into themselves. I currently don't consider you one of them nxracer, but that comment was pretty discouraging. So I'm not trying to insult you, but can't we all just appreciate all aspects of motorsports and cars? :)
Ne wayz, congrats on the car, Da Kine Guy. Maybe you can tune your machine for some road racing as well. It'd be nice to see you balance the car out with some suspension mods. Best of luck to ya!

Yeah, it's definately no autocross car as it is now. Turning radius is waaaaaay wider then the Celica. The automatic adjustable shocks work pretty damn good though, as well as the speed sensing steering. But who knows, it is RWD, maybe if someone good at drifting got behind the wheel it could be made to do some pretty crazy sh!t. Yeah, the Celica has the mkIII beat hands down in handling, no doubt about it, but the mkIII is no skimp. I am amazed that it handles as well as it does considering the weight (3600 lbs curb weight) and is able to pull .875 lateral G's. That's one helluva mass for a sports car. Oh well, I don't autocross anyways :P
F-22 Raptor: Most definately. I have read up on that issure very carefully prior to my purchase. Right now the engine's on the original head gasket and it hasn't blown and is showing no noticable signs of problems. I have been contemplating when I should replace it. I will probably go with another Toyota OEM gasket and not a metal one, as I really don't want to take the block out to get machined. Second thing I am thinking about is what spec to torque the head bolts to afterwards, the TSRM 58 ft/lbs or the SOGI 72 ft/lbs. Decisions decisions :)
yeah.. its honestly pretty hard to find a stock MKIV TT 6spd.. awesome cars...

I love supra first time I see it. When I first bought my celica GT, I paid it off. I thought about use that money to get a supra. However, the cost for insurance stopped me.

MkIV insurance is pretty high I've heard. Apparently, with its horsepower numbers it gets put in the Super-Car class for insurance, so it costs you an arm and leg. My mkIII, on the otherhand, is no more then if I were to insure a Camry of the same year. I had the insurance guy test it out and no matter what I buy right now I will be paying the same rate as I am now or higher. Sucks to be so young right now :P At least I was able to get all the discounts available, which knocked down the price quite a bit. Good student, Good driving record, has had liscense for 3+ years. It all adds up and is saving me some considerable money.
I WANNA TAKE PICTURES FOR YOU GUYS!!! Hope the camera becomes available soon. You really gotta see the condition this thing is in, it's absolutely unbelievable. The car idols just as smooth as our Celica that has only 19k miles on it. I am amazed that I was able to find one in this great shape.

Hey...you could have saved some more money by buying a mark2 and swapping the 7mgte engine into it. It's lighter and has a stiffer chassis. Check out the SONiC website, Reg Riemer did a nice swap and with some upgrades on the turbo and ECU he was pushing 420 to the crank I believe. Anyhow nevermind my digression, enjoy the car....and be careful about sliding the ass around. I got in a tissy with guard rail because of that.
Anyone wanna buy a mk2 supra in good condition?

Yeah, I've seen that page. Man that car must be quick. The 7M in a lighter car must be a pretty awesome thing to drive. I really like the look of the mkIII though. I spotted one on the road back when I was 15 and have wanted one ever sense. Hmmm, I wonder what a 2jz in a mkII would be like........ :)
Oh yeah, and thanks for the warning about the sliding ass. The only other RWD car I have driven besides the Supra is a 90hp/90torque '80 Toyota Corona, so I didn't have much to worry about before hand. Guess I gotta learn to be careful with the 250 ft/lbs I am working with now :D

Noted. Thanks. Hey oldster, you keeping track of this with me? ;)
Enjoy the MkIII. There's a lot of potential in those cars.
I don't know why I got flamed so much for suggesting that members were trading up. The current trend of that seems to be holding. You can all go bite your tongues now. :D

I've liked the MKIII's ever since I was first looking for a car. They were new on the lot then. ;) I've even peeked out there recently for either a MKII hatchback or a MKIII turbo.
But I still absolutely love the MKIV's. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine. Someday.

:werd: Someday I'll have one too. Ever since they came out in '93, I was 13 then, I've dreamed of owning one. Fuhk that F&F movie for jacking up the prices. Now it's going to take longer for me to own one. I'll still keep my celi though, as a daily driver. :)

I believe SupraStore has a HKS head gasket that is a direct replacement but not totally positive on that but the part aint a bad price it is the freaking labor. If the one you got aint giving you any probs I say retorque it to the 72 lbs/ft and let it be..Until you feel like your changing everything in the head anyway and it can be just a simple add on to the rest like pistons or such. Stage 7 Kit brings you into 400 hp babbbeeeee

Damn, u live too far away. :D
But yeah, that's one of my future projects. Getting a MkII and swapping in the 7mgte. Probably end up tearing out everything and making it into a road racing monster. Can u say, Supra-drift? ;)
