I've been downshifting my car from 4-3 without rev matching couple of times. I am currently in my break in period and I was wondering if that was bad for the engine. I can feel a tug when I straight downshift and it's not a smooth transaction. Can you guys tell me if downshifting w/out rev matching is bad for the engine?

Well if you downshift it, and your rev goes higher then 4 while your still in your breakin period then that would not be good. It could lessen the life of your engine. Just be safe and revmatch while you are still breaking it in.

i'll give u an example of it........imagin ur going 60-70mph in 6th gear and u want to catch up w/ some1 or increase speed......and u want to downshift into 3rd...
#1 press the clutch and pop it into neutral
#2 rev it up to about 6k rpm or so (cuz thats where the revs are at when going 60mph, in third gear)
#3 then press the clutch again and pop it into third
that's basically "rev matching".....u just gottta know where the rev's are at a certain speed in a certain gear.....get me.....and #1-3 have to be in smooth motion...that's the trick
if thats rev matching, then what does "heel toe" do?
my friend showed me this one japanese video where it showed a race against a skyline r33 or 32 against a trueno and another car thats like 140 hp. well the lower powered cars were doing heel toe and my friend said that was rev matching.
now i'm confused...
is heel toe used to rev match?
can someone explain the heel toe thing as well? i been trying to do that after that video and i'm just not getting it. those japanese guys have fast and small feet.

yes, heel toe is used to rev match, but you keep braking while blipping the throttle to rev match.. it's more of a "oh crap! big turn coming, and i'm going fast" type of thing if you race or want to maintain your speed for the longest time.. hard for me to explain right now.. too late at night to find a link that explains it better
