A co-worker friend calls me Monday afternoon, and tells me to meet him in the parking lot--he's got something to show me. Now he's been looking at Celicas for the past 2 years, but ...

The local Toyota dealer dressed up this MR2 to take to local car shows. We're still trying to figure out everything they've added to it, but know it has aftermarket 17" wheels (what are they?) and the TRD Stage 1 Body Kit. Sharp.

Oh that's soooo clean! I test drove a yellow one the other day. They're pretty quick. I've never driven anything with the 1ZZ-FE in it so that was an experience. I found my self bouncing off the rev limiter a couple times 'cause I'm used to my 8,300rpm limiter. I'd love to drive (or own) one with the 2ZZ-GE in. That sh!t'd be quick as your mom in the sack. :gap:

wow that bodykit is nice, and the wheel are nice also. not a fan of drop-tops(soft-tops), but i could have fun with that car. i like the gauges, wish the celica's gauges were set up that way, with the tach in the center. i like it!

Yeah, MR2's are awesome, I would have gotten one, but they are way out of my price range. Anyways, that car is awesome, looks as good as the ones they show in the TRD catalog.

Thanks for the nice comments--I'll pass those onto my friend. I know he's very excited about the car... he's strangely been missing in the evenings :D

jotan82: with everything (which we're still trying to take inventory of!), the final cost was $29K. Car had 280 miles on it, mostly from drives between Fort Collins and Denver for the car shows (probably 2).

borpph: the rims are RH Evolution CP8's, 17" (and 17#) in Competition Bronze (thanks jotan82 for the pointer on the rims)

I'm going to get some pictures of my Celi and the MR2 later this week.

I put 11k on my Celi in addition to the $23k sticker. For $34k I could have brought a blown Supra, BMW 325i, S2000, etc.

You can't add it up like that.

Well.. s2k isn't cheap as you think..
The starting are low 30k.. but you have to remember s2k has high mark up.. aleast 5-6k....

You should have your friend pay a visit to Spyderchat.com (http://www.spyderchat.com)

He was shocked at the insurance: <$800 for a year of full coverage. He was expecting 2-3 times that.

He used a local insurance broker, and ended up going through Progressive.

Thanks for the pointer. I"ve been working on getting him hooked up with the NC.org sponsors for parts and MR2 sites as I find them.

the outside i like... but as this is toyota's sports car....(two seater rear wheel drive)... i'd think the interior would be a lot nicer.... the celica's center console looks a helluvalot better than that one... this one looks like it was designed in the 80's... like the car a lot tho... everytime i see it i mistake it for a carrera.... dunno if its a good thing or not....

whats next for that car? they have FI for it.... hear it runs less than 5's for 0-60... btw.... do s2k antennas fit on it? would go well with the black-ish rims...

Yes there is a person in the spyderchat forum who sells s2k that are made to fit the spyder, I forget his name though. Do a search for the spyderflex antenna...a.k.a. s2k antenna. I just got my black 2002 mr2 spyder a few days ago. Black top with red seats and interior. God I love this car.....but I paid 23,700 for mine.

I think your friend got a bit jipped on the price though. he probly could have bought the car and bought the body kit and tires for less than 5000 bucks. MSRP for a non-leather, manual tranmission spyder is 24,300 nevermind all the miles on it (yes that is a lot of "show" miles). It doesn't look like the car's lowered any, if he does put lowering springs in it tell him to make sure the tires are the correct offset so they don't rub (common problem with the spyderatti). Anyhow...have him check out spyderchat lots of useful info. I will stop now.....*sigh* I think I'll go for a drive.

Tik :wtf:
