engine knock, no misshift?

I was out on the highway, and all of a sudden noticed that my engine was just knocking. At first I thought it might be a lose plastic piece, so I checked, kept driving, and it still happend. I get home and I'm like, wtf, so I take off all the plastic pieces and make sure nothing is lose, and then take it back out, it's still making this tapping sound. So, I decide to just redline first gear, it knocks all the way up, and then into second gear it knocks, and then just a CEL and the car dies. I didn't realize it got a CEL and turned off till I was breaking and didn't hear the engine. So, I was able to turn the car on, and no CEL or any lights, and I drove it back home, but I can't figure out if this is the engine, a valve spring or what. It's annoying as hell cause I didn't even drive it rough. I'm going to bring it in sometime I guess, but I have no clue what's wrong.

low oil? bad gas? could be reasons for knocking....is this a GTS, if so did lift kick in? if not there's another sign you're low on oil

my .02....when you have a problem, it's not a good idea to go pushing the engine to it's limits cause chances are you'll make it worse.

it's due for an oil change anytime soon, although I don't see how this could be a problem. In addition, I konw it's not a good thing to pusht he engine, but I figured that maybe it'd kind asmooth it self out if it was anythign lose :grins: kinda just break off. Sounds bad. It's a gt though, so it doesn' thave lift. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do. I'm oging to clean the MAF sensor and make sure my hoses are tight on my intake. My friend said it might be a valve spring, but I"m not sure.

yeah check the hoses and maf...just be especially carefull of the resistors in the maf...doubt it's your problem, but can't hurt. if it was either of those i'm guessing you would experience a significant loss of power as well.

how many miles on your car? if you have alot or buy cheap gas, it could be dirty injectors....a bottle of injector cleaner may help....

do you have a cel? if so find out what the code is....
