View Full Version : Warranty Void because of CAI?

Everytime I start my car in the morning i get this high pitched squeel that goes away after a few minutes of driving. Anyway, I heard that it was the belt tensioner. Also, sometimes when I stick my car in reverse, I can hear a bit of grind... but this only happens sometimes. Is this normal? If not, will the warranty cover these problems? Also, will the dealers give me hell about the warranty because I have a cold air intake??? Please help. Thanks.

they MIGHT give u hard time about it but remember they have to prove that it's the CAI that's causing it.....most dealers don't....and plus it's way 2 different thing ur talking about

Dealers have to prove that your CAI have caused the problems... CAI has nothing to do with ur belt tensioner nor ur tranny. Take it to you dealer and have them replace the tensioner. The tensioner is on Toyota's TSB, so they will fix it right away. Now, for tranny, just play dumb and tell them saying it is badly grinding when in reverse....one of the service manager will insist on test drive, after that, they will decide whether to fix it or not...

If your car is grinding in reverse, take it to the dealership. They shouldn't give you any hassle with the transmission because you have a CAI.

well, I broke a rod, and they are saying cause of my CAI, so be careful. It sux now having to dispute this whole thing w them about how they aren't even close to being related.

If this is something that they are not going to cover under warranty, and will end up costing you a lot of money in the long run, I would suggest looking into getting a lawyer.
Sometimes, I hear a grind too when I put my car on reverse. Is that normal? I thought it was just the way I put my car on reverse.

About the ocasional "grinding" when putting it in reverse, that is completly normal. Reverse gears don`t have syncros and you should wait a second or two to make shure your shafts stopped turning before attempting reverse.
I thought most, if not all of us, grind a bit putting into reverse
It's done it for me since day 1..... especially if you're rolling a little it will

I remember reading that in my old 88 Camry owner's manual.
Reverse gear is a spur gear also, instead of helical like the forward gears.

My dealer has only complained about it once when I was haveing problems with my ABS system. They said it was because of the "aftermarket wireing" that was done for the Intake. They said they repaired the wireing, and cleared the codes and it was working fine again, and that they would covered it under warranty.
Anyway, I'm thinking, what wireing? There's no aftermarket wireing for the CAI. I look under the hood to see if they messed anything up, and checked all the custom wireing that I did myself, but it looks to me like they didn't do anything to any wireing. Anyway, I'm not haveing problems with my ABS system, yet.
