I run 15x7 Kosei K1 with 205/50’s, I can remember if they are 12 or 13 pounds but they are right in there.

Track lights and Rota are you’re only other bet, unless you want to go the custom route. None that I know of offer a 15x7.5 anymore, so that would be custom.

is Rota Forged or Cast?

rotas are cast

Rota Slipstreams here. 15x7, +35, I believe they are cast. We weighed them on our own scale before putting them on, they were 13.0 lbs. The Motegi Traklites are lighter and not much more expensive, I wish I had gone with those (available on Tire Rack).

You are not going to find a 7.5 wheel in our lug pattern - there's just no market for it.

I think that's the north american stock list. At least the count went from 10 to 6 when I got mine.

I ordered them from a three letter outfit (LSD?).
Any rota dealer should be able to get them.

I also saw a set on ebay targeted to Neon owners.

Yeah, maybe used. Mine were $550 shipped. Tirerack was letting the Motegis go for around $800. For what you get out of it (lighter, higher quality wheel) it's not much extra IMO.

wow thats cheap. for Rota

I was looking at this wheel:

http://www.aspecproducts.com/forums/evom/volk/TE_CE_Aug08/TE_189522_dblue.jpg

TE37 they wight 8lb but they are 15x6.5 5x100 +45 offset(stock matrix offset btw)
$1700 LOL

or CE28N 15x6.5 +45 5x100 same off set thses shoujld be even lighter by 1 or 2lb

or should I just go w/16"?

Despite the lightness, I don't think that you have to spend so much just on wheels.

I mean sure the car would handle nicer & faster but can the driver drive the car through the cones quick enough?

kortik

yes you're right.

so 15 or 16?

this will be for road racing, time attack, autox.

do you guys use 15"s for track autox use only or do you daily drive as well?

I thought going 16" so I can daily drive no problem but if I go w/15" then it will be for strictly track use

renfield90

I daily drive the 15s. I don't see the difference from a daily driver perspective between 15" and 16".

15" if you're doing track days, autox, & daily drive.

I'm doing it right now.

Also consider the weight of the tires you plan to use. I wish I had gotten 16 or 17" rotas, because I could have picked up a slightly lighter RT-615 than the 205-50's, and the overall tire-wheel weight would have been about 2 lbs less per corner...

The question then is, is the gearing that the 205/50 give you better then the weight?
I DD on works 17s
Autocross on the 15s
I would think you want to stay with the 15s.

what are some light grippy tires for 15" and what is considered light tire?

The reason for the extra weight on the 205/50/15 is because the sidewalls are specially reinforced. If you go to Falken's site, you'll see a few of the RT-615 sizes are marked as "reinforced." The result is that this tire has one of the stiffest sidewalls you can get in a street tire. It drives pretty awesome (unlike the comparatively floppy Kumho MXs).

In general you should pick the tire that is going to be the best (read: fastest) regardless of weight or even diameter (gearing penalty) - although for street tires, gearing becomes a little more important because you generally can't gain enough grip from going to a really tall/wide tire to offset your lack of acceleration. For R tires, this does not hold true - which is why you'll see some cars in SP or SM with 18" wheels so they can fit some absolutely gargantuan tires.

Tire choice is way too important to have weight as a primary determining factor. The new Direzza Z1s are pretty heavy (and not coincidentally have very stiff sidewalls), but are pretty much the top street tire out there right now. Tire Rack ranked them 1st in their latest test. Don't get me wrong, I'm a serious weight freak. I will leave my windshield washer fluid reservoir empty if I have an event in a week. But not when it comes to tires.

Additionally, as grip levels go up, tire deflection will increase, and you'll need stiffer sidewalls to handle the strain. Otherwise you end up with a sloppy, mushy, inconsistent feel that is hard to drive.

Of course, if you're not daily driving them, you can shave the tires to 4/32nds. That will actually save you a couple pounds or so per corner.

Who cares about looks? Buy the wheel size you want/need. Gunmetal wasn't exactly my first choice but my options were limited.

If you lived in the Racing Lab area, you get discounts for the Rota's.

1) You don't have to pay for shipping.
2) You don't have to pay for tax.
3) You get $5-10 discount.
etc..

Just an FYI.

I was looking at this wheel:
TE37 they weigh 8lb but they are 15x6.5 5x100 +45 offset(stock matrix offset btw)...Those are good wheels. I have them for the MR-2 in 15x6 and 15x6.5. (unfortunately the bolt pattern is different than the celica, so I have two stacks of tires to the ceiling in the garage instead of one)
I can tell the difference in throttle response in comparison with the stock wheels or the slightly heavier 15x8's for it.

The 15x7 +35 should be available, just ask. I had to ask for the 15x8's, they weren't on the website I ordered from either.
