Hey guys,

When i am driving and hit a bump or the road gives a little bit of a lift for the car like tiny hills there is a rattling sound as if something is loose.. I went to a mechanic and they told me shocks/struts so i changed them and what do u know the noise is still there.. anyone got any ideas? any help will be appreciated!!

it sounds like a wabbling noise as if something is loose..to me sounds like around the front wheel area..the type of rattle ill be honest and im not sure..but it if driving on a straight road there is no noise..only when the road is bumpy..

i dont know if any of this is helpful but its been bothering me for awhile now..

Im just guessing but it could be anything in your suspension from your tie rods, ball joint, sway bar, rack and pinion, hub, it could be anything to be honest hard to say. what you could do is raise your front end and try to mimic the sound your are hearing. if youre saying its a wobbling sound it could be a ball joint but doubtfull. To find out raise your front end put your hands on the rim at 3 and 9 rock the rim back and forth then again at 6 and 12 it should be stiff or solid feeling.

Its blown struts, you can ride on them for as many miles as you want, you will just have to live with the noise.

^I dont think that would be it if he has already replaced them.

I get the same sounds. it's def. not my struts but I haven't got under there to really look. it annoys me but I just turn the music up louder. haha. probably a loose bot or a joint that isn't well lubricated

Try laying your rear seat down on the drivers side, a few times and then slamming it back into place. I had the same noise and thought it was my suspension. I replaced everything, eibach prokit springs and KYB GR-2 struts. It didn't go away. I finally took it in and Toyota couldn't find anything either. I was moving a shelf and put the back seat down and when I snapped it back into place, there was that rattle noise that happened every time I hit a bump. It sounds like it comes from right under your left foot, it is coming from the back seat latch. ....Try it. If anyone can find a fix, I will owe you one!! Thanks, Joe

How's your Celica doin' right now? I don't think that it's just struts. I got my own noise problem, after i start I can hear a whistling noise for a couple of minutes. I think it was just the fanbelt though. Goodluck

hmmm.... me too used to have same problem with my former TANABE NF210 spring. do you have aftermarket spring/ shocks?? Well, eventually i had to revert to the OEM spring setup, since the TRIAL bodykit is hitting the bumps here and there. since i revert to the good old factory spring the noise seems to have vanished....

i believe it's your swaybar linkage.. if you have access to reach it and try shaking it and see if that the sounds that you been hearing... if this the prob you have to replace it..

I had this problem and fixed it last weekend. It was a loose sway bar linkage bolt. Its the linkage that connects the sway bar to the strut. It has what looks like 2 small tie rod ends. Take a wrench and see if the nut spins. If it does its loose and you need to tighten it. You will need an allen wrench as well to keep the bolt from spinning when you tighten the nut. Hope this does it for you!

I checked the sway bar that connects to the strut and everything seems tight. I think blown struts is causing my wierd sound.

back in the day someone had explained something about the shock towers having some plastic shims that get wallowed out and every time you hit a bump it would sound just like your discussing. it was back when they were teaching us how to align cars but my mind was wandering. only picked up a few things like take the cap off and shave something for a quick fix. maybe bring that up with your car mechanic and it could spark something in that dust filled hole he calls his head. i work on over the road trucks so i just deal with air bags, shocks and big boy leaf springs so forgive me for not remembering to well about auto struts. but its defiantly somewhere along that line. all that ball joint clunking crap would be a CLUNK not a rattle and if it was you would be able to wiggle your tires by grabbing them from top and bottom and able to give them a good shimmy up and down while you had the car tire off the ground. or if tie rods you would be able to grab the rod end and be able to "clunk" it up and down. Good Luck!

I actually went to a mechanic, a good friend of mine, and he said its not the blown struts making the noise. He said my struts are still ok, but he doesnt know where the sound is coming from. He checked everything and my car will still be ok to drive even with the wierd noise.

xrage4200, what and where is the loose pin on the suspension you are talking about. Please post a picture, it would really help.

grr... i need to talk to that guy again about that rattle for what i tried to explain again. he stops by the shop from time to time. i'll have to snag him next time i see him. but yea everything is tight and it'll ride fine but its a stupid plastic deal that need attention. alot of cars have that kind of issue. i'll post back when i get the whole story.... again!

did u install the strut urself or a shop install it?? i install the tokico blue myself..just last week i notice a thud, clunk noise coming from the passenger side toward the front..couldn't figure out wat exactly cause it at first, then last night after coming home from work i pop the hood, check the strut mount 19mm nut and to my surprise it was loose..i tighten it, check the driver side just to be safe..it was on pretty tight..went out for a test drive and the noise stop completely..

i would check that, just pop the rubber cover of the strut mount nut and take a wrench with an 19mm socket to it..tighten it down again..

good luck
