Aren't they supposed to say WHY it is being recalled? They don't say "Hey bring back your car"

Most likely
It would be nice if they had a recall for the rev limiter

Wouldent happen because they reason they change them is because to many people where blowing the motors.

Maybe they finally relaized that lowering the limiter doesn't fix that. :) Either way I doubt its for the limiter.

Ok, did they say WHY and WHAT they are recalling?

I just got a letter for my 00 Avalon, warning about oil gelling and that is fully covered by the warranty, I guess some toyota oil/engines had problems with the oil turning into gel.

hopefully it would be for the rev limiter.. especially since its rumored that the 03s will have the 8400 limit again

well damn, that would be nice. i dont think they will do it though.

Why not? They put the Matrix 6spd back to 8400 and its the same tranny. No reason not to do it for the Celi. I don't think we'll be seeing any recall on the 02 though - that would be mondo expensive and the vast majority of the people that own em don't have any idea about the problem, and those that do know about it never even bother to say anythign to Toyota. I mean - we've had what? ONE person say they actually bothered to call Toyota's customer service number and complain about it? Why SHOULD they fix it if no-one complains?

yea i doubt toyota would recall the celica for that... if anything they would put a TSB out for it.. cuz like griffin said.. half the people that own gts's probably dont know / care about the problem.

I've called all branches of Toyota from dealership, to SET, to Toyota USA. All have prove fruitless and have given me the same response. Toyota USA said nothing has changed the car still makes peak power at 7600rpm.

Well I wish more people would too EZ - I know I called em - And you should keep calling... otherwise we can never expect them to do anything about it. Its not financially viable to do anything when no-one seems to care.

well i went to the dealer i called them on my way there and they said it was an Axel Bolt that needs retorquing and then i got to the dealer they said it was the cruise control needs to be replaced well they told me that then need to order parts for the cruise control so yeah but i tried to ask about the axel bolt and they said nothing about it like avoiding the question... so yeah its recall SSC-20C

I heard something in automotive news about axle bolts on Corolla and Pontiac Vibe (means another NUMMI screw up)... I wonder if they were confused, because in those cases Toyota will mail something to the owners.

SSC-20C????

Brett
06-25-2002, 10:54 AM
hmmm, Cruise control? Is it normal for the cruise control to just slow its self down by about 4-8 mph? Mine will be set at say 70, and then all of a sudden randomly slows down, then either goes back to normal speed, or just plain simply stays at 4-8mph lower then it was set, until I hit the accelerator up button.

Does anyone think this has to do with the new ECU and drive system for the 2003 Celica model? As the cruise control is being changed also for the 2003 Celica, from what I read....

Well all it is a special service campaign for a cruise control switch that could fall apart, due to wrong type of glue being used.Nothing else.

i can't believe you guys think they'll recall the car because of the rev limiter. why in the hell do you think they'd do that? because it'd be faster? because you'd like the car more? you already bought it. they don't care. it only makes the car more fragile to them. recalls are only done to save toyota money. like, its cheaper to fix a small problem on every car than to fix what will happen to the few that break if there is no recall.

I emailed them first. After the third try to get them to say something about the rev limiter (instead of "we don't have that information"), they finally said "the specifications were changed to protect the engine". That was it. Then I called and was told that they only have access to what is in their manuals, which they can search through. The district manager told me they can ask their tech people, but the person on the phone denied this. I've looked through the shop manual and it never mentions the rev limiter, although it does say the OCV switches at 6000 rpm. Who else do I complain to??
