so i went to test drive an 04 tsunami celica today... and the reverse gear was soo stiff... i mean.. i can't really put it in the gear... until i sorta forced it hahaha... so my question is... i drove my friend's s2000 and accent before... (i know they're two different class or cars.. doesn't matter) for the 2000, you need to push it down and slide it to Reverse.... for the Accent, you lift it and slide it to reverse which is also beside the first gear like the celica... but what about the celica? do i need to do n e of that?

My reverse is a lil tough too.. sometimes i let it roll a lil (take my foot off the brake) and it seems to help.

It happens. Strong arm it, release the clutch and repeat if it doesn't engage.

You should'nt really have to force it. Make sure the clutch is in all the way or just shift into reverse while the car is off.

I find it easier to go from first into reverse, whether this is screwing anything up i don't know, it always goes in easier that way and the synchros are already messed up so i figure why not, if this is bad someone let me know........

Yea i usually go from 1st to reverse.. for some reason, my reverse scratches the gears once in a while if i go directly to reverse, but never have a problem if i go from 1st to reverse. anybody got ne ideas why?

Did it have a short shifter? The TRD was for the early 6 speeds and the GT which didn't have to move as far to get to reverse. Someone on here put a TRD in a later 6 speed recently and had a heck of a time getting into reverse like you describe.

for me i cant really go into reverse if the car is in motion. My car must be still.

same here. im a 04 gt.
i just pop it in reverse. 70% of the time its like.. half in.. i just let go of the clutch a little bit. then it pops in gear by itself lol

One thing is that reverse actually has no synchros. i could be mistaken but i couldve sworn i read in a thread.

interesting, i haven't really looked much into the transmission issue since i knew that some of my synchros were shot i just figured reverse must be too..... anyone with expert knowledge on this know for sure what the deal is? and has anyone ever had someone/tried to rebuild or replace the synchros in the 6 speed transmission? i'm sure there are probably posts on it but i figured if i was asking questions i might as well through that in there too....
