just a curious question. I personally dont think so. The only thing i really favour over the SX is the sunroof and ABS (saved my ass a few times).
But for the extra 5-6k i think most people would rather do "other" things to it.

your views ?

Only thing I wanted from the ZR after purchasing my SX is the ZR foglights. But after hearing Toyota were selling them for $550 for each foglight, $100 for the switch and $150 per mounting bracket, I said forget it.

I did'nt want ABS, side airbags or moonroof. I wanted the lighter SX package. Want to set my car up for track work in the near future and the ABS would spoil the fun.

I've debadged my SX and Toyota badges at the back of the car anyways so no one can tell what model it is. Replcaed with a genuine TRD badge instead.

I installed a set of these Narva 71840 foglights in my SX (http://www.narva.com.au/ForwardLighting3.html). To mount the lights, I make up a couple of simple right angle brackets to attach to to the existing mounting holes in the metal front bumper. I mounted a Narva 63027BL rocker switch (http://www.narva.com.au/Switches11.html) in one of the spare positions on the lower dash and wired it pick up the existing fog light wiring at the combination switch. I had to do a little bit of extra wiring at the switch to provide power for the LED in the rocker switch because the Celica uses earth switching. I bought a relay from my local auto elecrician for $10.00 (Toyota wanted $60.00 for the genuine fog lamp relay) and installed it in the fog lamp relay socket behind the passenger side kick panel. I located the existing wiring loom connectors for each foglamp, cut off the existing connectors & replaced them with suitable connectors for the new fog lamps.

Voila they work just like the originals and the whole deal cost me less than $150.00. In my opinion the new foglights look better than those on the ZR's because they better fill the openings in the bumper.

The whole deal cost me less than $150.00

I can provide a wiring diagram and further details if needed.

Jards88, thanks for the offer. All I did was go to my local Motoquipe store and bought some cheap Sij 85W foglmap kit with wiring, switch/fuse etc. Cost me about $85 and $70 for a auto electrican to come to my house and install it for rme. Got ion yellow lamps. I'm very staisfied with the look. I bought the fogs for practical reasons more for looks. I love driving up in the Adelaide hills at night and need good vision around corners. (love the twisties)

I was considering Piaa 959 ion yellow fog lamp kit but at $1100, the price was too steep for me. Too parinoid about someone ripping them off my car if I parked it somewhere. So I went for something cheap instead.

If you are planning on spending a lot of $$$ on mods, then I would go for the SX. If you want to keep it mostly stock, then I think the ZR is the better buy.

When I sat down with the dealer, it was going to work out $1,000 more to get a ZR without sunroof than to get a SX with ABS and side airbags (plus allowance for stereo ha ha ha).

For the extra $1,000 (plus I ended up getting the sunroof), you get bigger (and nicer) wheels, better stereo, fog lamps, better interior colour, chrome door sills, aluminium racing pedals. Plus higher resale value later on.

But, if you are going to redo the interior, stereo, bodykit and wheels, then there is no point getting the ZR.

My two cents worth.

I agree with Matty P ,But, if you are going to redo the interior, stereo, bodykit and wheels, then there is no point getting the ZR.

I was not going off the car lot on stocky 15 inch wheels with stock height.

i'd like the abs. don't care about side airbags but you can order the two as an option pack on the sx. i reckon you'd be able to disable the abs pretty easily for trackwork if you like.

piaa 959's are sweet - but yes, v.expensive. not paranoid about getting them pinched, but don't really park in weird places either. they fit the trd nose perfectly, though.
