My celi is running stock all over and i plan to put 17s at first. but 18s look nice :D however my previous civic was from 15 to 17 and i notice a degrade in acceleration due to weight.
are the 17s and 18s weights differ a lot? i don't want to bog my celi down by putting 18s. now i'm rethinking of just getting 17s.

i think the difference would be like a pound or two max per wheel if that

17 is good track rims
18 is stylish and a bit of sport to it.
19 is just bleh.

I went from 15" to 18"
I noticed a little bit slower acceleration, and slightly worse gas mileage. I still think its a fun ride, and have no problem whatsoever getting up to speed on a highway onramp. The Celica still gets good gas mileage compared to my old car so I dont really care about that either.
Bottom line - the 18" look nice, they will slow down the car a little but not enough to matter unless you race

I had 18's for about 4 years, and recently switched to 16's. There's a noticeable difference in acceleration and gas mileage as well [it's been so long since I first put on the 18's that I don't recall the difference from then so that's no help, sorry >_< ]. I would give you pics, but they're off my car and sitting in my garage, and I never took any pictures on the car itself.
From the pics I've seen on this site and around the web, 17's look good on stock body [better than 18's in most cases IMO], and the decrease in performance would be less than going to 18's [that whole rotating mass thing]. Also, I believe tire replacement would be cheaper for 17's than for 18's.
As far as looks, if you have the right drop, 18's will be about the same ride height as stock, depending on tire choice. I had 40 profile tires, and the difference between that and stock was negligible - that was with Tein SS springs, ~1.4" drop. Lower would look even better IMO. I have rarely seen 17's that looked too big/looked bad. 18's are a gamble, depending on what kind you get. In my case, they went well with a stock body [5Zigen hyper black FN01R-Cs]
That was a pretty long winded post. Hope at least some of it helped! Did you have any particular wheel in mind? Post some pics if you do, then that would give us a better idea
On a side note:
im running 19" its fine.. just a minor.minor lag in first gear.

there is no gain in going 18"s except for looks.
mpg goes down, acceleration goes down
gas money goes up, tire money goes up

17 is a typical size for a lot of celica owners. It is not too small that it looks stock and it is not too big that it slow down your ride. If you want some meat for the tires 17 is the best size and its cheaper to get tires for it also. Im rollin on 18's and i love it. I am also lookin for 17's for the track. Having a hard time finding the wheels i really want for track and even for DD.

17's are good because if you're a bad driver you'll avoid bending rims w/ potholes

I chose 17s over 18s, my reason where gas miles and a little more humpf off the line :). I just slapped some fatty tires on mine
