When I was at the track this guy in a GSR (late 90's model) asked me to race him.
I did twice and I beat him by like .1 or .2 both times, but he was trapping just as high as I was... around 95 mph
I remember one race, he started before me cuz of my poor reaction time, and righ when I shifted to 3rd I thought, alright here I go, I'm goign to pull, but nope, It was almost dead even through 3rd and 4th. Actually, I pulled in 2nd.....
Here is one race:
GT-S GSR
r/t .955 .521
60' 2.424 2.374
330 6.441 6.503
1/8 9.724 9.843
MPH 74.83 74.30
1000 12.527 12.694
1/4 14.901 15.097
MPH 94.62 94.47
Now, how the heck did a GSR get that fast?
He said "only Intake, exhaust"
but I did notice he had a foil thing that channel air to his intake,
also he had some weird funnels on his engine. like baby K/N filters.
anyone know?

Right. They can sometimes get down in to the 14's with just intake and exhaust.

I think this is a strange case because, if you look at the time slips,
I lost to him on the launch, then pulled on him in 2nd gear, then it was even through 3rd and 4th.
From what I've read on him, it should have been even in 1st and 2nd and me pulling in 3rd gear.
anyone have any idea what he could've done to it?

He's probably a better driver than you. His reaction time is sweet and indicates he probably has a lot of drag racing experience. It takes some skill to get reaction times like that.

YOU NO MAKE ANY SENSE. WHAT YOU TALK ABOUT. I HATE THIS BOARD AND ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!! I WILL SELL MY CELICA AND BUY A KIA. GOODBYE FOREVER
(I hope everyone has enjoyed being trolled )
yes GSR's with i/e can be that fast if they are driven properly.. still about .5 behind a GTS with i/e.. but they are easily moddable to get low 14s..
btw, ZoominGTS has been banned..

My neighbor has one. hes a good driver i know he is but he cant get faster than a 15.3 . he has a 2000 GS-r 5 spd with an AEM CAI, Greddy EVo cat-back, Type R bottom end, an AEM adjustable fuel regulator, 2.5 inch drop with camber kit, on si wheels. i thought he should be faster than he is, he told me he has never seen a GS-r with his mods get anything faster than that. i guess he is wrong??

and thats comming from a guy who drives an auto gts. it doesn't take much intelligence to drive an automatic
but if you think your's so damn fast. come to KC and race my auto celica gts.. or if you're ballsy enough to even think about it
my gsx will be waiting for you.
Kit run's 14's. you run 16's. see the difference here?

GSRs running low 15s with I/E is not unheard of. This guy obviously knows how to drive. It seems pretty believable to me. He should be in the 14s if he'd add a header.

well none of you guys addressed the reason I posted this.
It wasn't his et, it was his trap speed.
I think most gsr's don't get 95mph trap speeds wth just I/E?
also, KCIR is known as a slow track..

Yeah I don't think he only had intake and exhaust. GS-Rs will usually trap at 92-93mph with those mods. 95mph means he had more than just Intake and exhaust or he had one of those strong cars from the factory.
what was the temperature...cold weather will raise your mph..

i think that guy can drive pretty good, or he never falls out of vtec. tire spin can make your mph a bit higher.
my friend in a gsr has intake, open header ran 15.2 at 94, and he's pretty good at driving.

This is true. That's why I need to get to the track when it gets cold and see if I can trap higher than 95. :D
i mean we were trappin damn near 100mph in the Celica

I guess alot of people lie about their mods at the track.
it's so weird that I pulled on him in 2nd gear not 3rd or 4th :)

Humm, it's questionable. When I had my JSpec B16A, I ran 14.7 and I had I/H/E, VTEC controller, MSD, Timing gear, Stage 3 Clutch and other stuff. Ran at Sears Point Raceway without my slicks. I do have a heavy ass rim though. That was like 2 years ago. Are you sure the GS-R only has I/H/E? Those are quick times just for I/H/E. When people at the track asked me what I have, I got tired going thru the detail on what I actually have and just say I/H/E. My timing gear is covered by stock cover and my VTEC controller is in the middle console (hidden). They thought it's just the motor that's strong.
But I did have other people that suspect I have more than I/H/E. But those are rare times where I had to tell the truth. lol. Somehow running at Sears Point is slow.

After looking over dyno graphs for the GS-R and the GT-S, it's apparent that the GS-R has a more useable powerband. It might not make the peak power like the GT-S, but it has the ability to nail every gear perfectly and land in the powerband. I think the GS-R is seriously underrated by the Celica group.
The guy that ran the 15.0@94 in the slightly modded GS-R isn't a great driver seeing that his 60' are still well in the 2.3 range. I completely understand that KCIR is a junk track (it's where I do all my racing), but a mid 2.3 60' is still bad. I completely believe that a GS-R with an intake and exhaust can hit 94+ traps.
In April of this year I drove my buddies 99 GS-R at KCIR. His car is bonestock and was damn near fully loaded (spare, jack, gas, dog fur). I wound up to 5000rpm, slipped the clutch some, fed it some gas, and got a 2.31 60'. I ran his car twice (he's too much of a pus to race it) and got a 15.4@90mph and a 15.5@91mph. All shifts were at redline and I never felt any bog between shifts. With the addition of header, intake, and catback, I don't see why his GS-R couldn't go 14s at well over 94.
Some cars just take to intake and exhaust work extremely well. In stock form, most mags got 15.3s@91mph out of the 95-99 Maxima 5 speeds. With just an intake, y-pipe, B-pipe, stock muffler, I've hit 14.75@95+mph at KCIR and in relatively warm weather (70s). I don't think my car is a freak because there are other 4th gen Maximas hitting 96mph+.

I just fell in love with my neighbors GS-R. maaaaan. schweeeet. 2001 GS-r. Suspension techniques drop(2.3 inch drop or somehting), si rims, camber kit, greddy EVO exhaust, AEM CAI, AEM adjustible fuel regulator, ITR bottom end. he had 2 amp system in it too. that biatch chirps second hard as a mother. i can understand how it could keep up with a GT-S. so i am gonna say this GS-R you raced wasnt lying. cause i spoke to this kid, he said he raced someone last week, who had same stuff as him, bit a header, and he pulled about a bumper on him everytime.
The GS-R i was in ran 15.2 with crap tires with system ands a 9.9 1/8th mile, spare and all, this summer! in Florida! come to your own conclusions, but its not BS.

GS-Rs are sweet cars. That motor has tons of potential whether you want to go NA or FI.
My boy's GS-R had I/E and he trapped at 92.8. He ran Riceboykiller's GT-S also with I/E and he lost by two cars or so. Riceboykiller traps at 95mph at my track.
So the GT-S is faster than a GSR, but the difference isn't that enormous in that a GT-S will destroy a GS-R or viceversa.
What a GT-S has to worry about though is a EG (92'-95') hatch with a GS-R engine.

the GSR and GTS would be a lot closer if the GSR guys would do some weight removal.
yea its kinda funny..when I ran 13.9 I was tellin people I only had i/e.. i felt guilty :)
haha, did anyone believe you? a GTS with bolt-ons spinning the tires through all of first and most of 2nd...
hey yakko: how much will humidity hurt your time? like those guys from florida with all the heat and humidity...was it the heat or the humidity that hurt their times more? how about cold temperature and humidity? (like up here in NY right about now)
a few did.. ofcourse my hood was wide open, but if you recall you couldnt really see anything becuase it was all in loom..

Heat is more of a problem than humidity. The humidity will make the air heavier, but it will also cool the charge when it ignites. I would think you'd get less bang each time your piston fired. I need to try and look up something before I'm sure of that though.
