Someone came to check out my car today and is going to give me the money for it tomorrow. I need to make a bill of sale. This is my first time selling a car privately. Does anyone have any tips on what to include on it?

Car is sold as is no warrenty. No refunds once funds change hands make sure the check clears before they drive off. And take your plates off the car this will give you a peace of mind later on.

I would stress as is, make you you get everything in writing.

I only accept cash, take the plates and REGISTRATION off. I learned the hard way, left it on and the guy got 5 parking tickets in my name.

i would definitely ask a car insurance company some questions, they can usually provide quite a bit of light

Massachusetts has a lemon law that applies to dealer and private party sales of used cars. The Ma. Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Ma. Office of Consumer Affairs has the law posted and will tell you what your obligations are to the buyer who purchases your used car.

Buyer prefers paying with a certified bank check because he wants a record that he paid the full amount for the car. I thought of that as reasonable because I would want record that I received the full amount.

But if he gave me a check and I went down with him to the bank to deposit it doesn't that take a few days for the check to clear?

you dont have to wait for the cheque to clear, ask him to get a certified cheque, basically he gets a cheque and his bank certifies that the cheque will deposit, because his account has enough money. very important, tell him to get a certified cheque

When he gives you a check, go to the bank that he got the check from, and make sure that the funds are available. if so, then you can cash it from his bank, or deposit towards yours. I would keep the pink until the check clears. As soon as the car leaves your posession go to the dmv either online or inside, and release liability of the vehicle. You dont need a bill of sale, but it would be better for you. Just state your name, his name, the selling amount, how he paid With the date. also make sure you state its sold "as is", with no warranty. Print 2 copies (1 for you, and the other for him). and get your copy signed by him.

Like stated above, if he gives you a Certified Bank Check, you won't need to verify that funds are available. The only way you can get a Certified Check is to get it from your bank and they only issue it if your bank account has the funds available. You'll be fine as long as it's Certified. If it's not Certified, don't let him leave without going to or calling the bank to verify the funds are available.

Write up a short sale agreement and make two copies, both of you sign each copy.

You sure about that? I've seen alot of really affordable GT-S 6MTs pop up around here. You may have to wait a bit for a deal, but they do come up. Unless you're planning on turbo'ing, I would pick up a GT-S.

If you don't mind me asking, whats your price range?

8k should be able to put you in a slightly higher mileage GT-S. Just make sure lift works well when you test drive it (let the car warm up enough though). If lift doesn't work, don't buy ;)

Even if you gotta wait a month or so to save maybe an extra thousand, it would be well worth it. As much as I love my Z, the GT-S was a fun car (just lacked in a few areas). Once you get one, make sure you replace the lift bolts to the revised versions
