Well, it's a bit weird considering this is a concept car of the future, but this month's Popular Science has given the specs on this maroon, don't-know-which-end-is-the-front car:
1. Carbon-fiber-reinforced composite body repairs itself after damage
2. Body color changes to suit mood or attire
3. Solar panel roof
4. Fuel cell drives a 670-hp electric motor
5. Speed-sensitive ride-height adjustment on wheels, and adaptive springing and damping
6. Laser-guided cruising
7. Infrared system prevents collisions with fixed or moving objects
8. Satellite-based navigation and guidance
9. Automatic valet system parks vehicle and returns it to owner by remote
10. DNA recognition security system
11. Controls responsive to voice and gestures
12. Rear view via closed-circuit TV
13. Personal computer with internet link, customized music, news, and stock quotes.
Of the above, the following were:
- Realistic/ Already available: 3, 5, 8, 12, 13
- Possible: 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11
- Pure hollywood (won't happen anytime soon): 2, 10
Other miscellaneous info:
20 inch wheels
Rear-mounted fuel cell

This is stupid, I can't stand this movie, Spielberg actually thinks his view of the future can be implemented into the world's plans. I think he is sorely mistaken. 30 years ago, people thought we would be living in space on the moon.

There are some pics online floating around. I think it showed up in several auto shows...what I CAN give you is the website of the renowned designer who created it. Go to www.haraldbelker.com
Click on porfolio->Entertainment design and illustration-> movie vehicles->cars
The car is the RED one shown with minority report written below it. He drew an awesome batmobile, too. Also, going back to movie vehicles->futuristic, you can see some other cars he designed for Lexus (well, sort of). Enjoy!

actually number 10 is very possible... we've implemented it in many prototypes in my biomedical engineering lab... there are also numerous telemetrics that can be monitored for more driver/car interaction... all these sound like fiction but are in fact a reality (as in we're working with raytheon and delphi to bring the technology to truckers)

About number 2: you ever heard of the Toyota POD, you know, the one that changes color depending its 'mood'? So it is very possible.

670 hp electric motor?
that would be crazy fast.... if i'm not mistaken, isn't the thing about electric motors is that they have their peak hp and torque the ENTIRE time? their powerband is a straight horizontal line? can you imagine having 670 hp and the torque to go with it from the launch all the way to the finish line :)

Just wanted to clear up some stuff....
For #1, it's possible b/c according to PopSci, "self-healing composites are in development." Note that this doesn't mean a crushed car will repair itself. I think this is more in the lines of dings and minor dents.
As for the color changes, the Toyota Pod doesn't change the entire body's color, i don't think. The grooves in front of the car are the ones that actually change color, not the body sheets. Hahah, can you imagine the police trying to describe a car? Is it blue, or red, or yellow (just make sure you keep switching moods)?
#6 Laser-guided cruising is listed on lexus.com, so i guess you're right.
#10 For the DNA recognition, the technology is there, but PopSci don't believe that it'll be cheap enough to be implemented into a car anytime soon. Well, I don't know much about it personally, so...
#11 Voice recognition is available, but not physical gestures. PopSci made a joke about giving the driver a bird...LOL
BTW, if you go to www.lexus.com you will get a little flash intro of the Minority report car, which says, "experience the power of the 2054 Lexus" LOL
Anyways, even though the car's really strange, I really like it b/c it really pushed the envelope on what car design can be. I'm also really glad that Lexus was sponsoring it....perhaps a distant cousin to the next Supra?? (hahah sorry, just starting rumors)
I wonder what color the car would be if you were getting a BJ while driving !!!:naughty: :chuckles: :naughty:
