I saw a tutorial once about how to change the color of the clock but, can`t locate it now. Anyone know where it is?
I assume there is a (green) color plastic overlay over the whole display. Is this correct?

Ask "theHammer", he know how this is done.

You cannot change the color of the clock. The color is not from an overlay or anything like that, it is an LCD(liquid crystal display) display just like the kind you would find in a digital alarm clock. A few members a while back contacted the company that makes the display for toyota and asked them if they made the same size display in different colors but they don't. If they did, you could cut all the connections to the display and soder a new one in its place.
The only way to change the color is to put a vinal covering over it to tint the light. For example, if you want the clock to be blue, put some blue vinal over the clock so it will shine through blue. Unfortunately, since the display is green, you would end up with more of a teal color rather than blue, plus the added material makes the display more difficult to see, especially during the day.

OK, I guess that ends that idea.

ummm i think you are wrong on that one bud
i'm damn sure that i've seen someone make that blue w/out the blue vinal idea. I can't say that i'm trully right or that you are trully wrong, but i can only say that i'm damn sure...haha did that make any sense??

I've changed mine to orange with a little drop in intensity. The lcd is normally light blue, so finding a blue cellophane sheet shouldn't kill the output too much.
The trick is to go to your local camera store and ask for a small sheet of gel for spotlights (I think thats what it's called) in blue. This stuff is pretty thin, thinner than vinyl at least. A 12" x 12" sheet probably costs $5 max. Remove the lcd from the center unit and glue the blue gel piece over the lcd, just use little dots of glue in the corners. That's it!

I don't think the clock is an LCD. It is a VFD, Vacuum Florescent Display.

ANYWAYS...the point is to follow sponge's idea...i did this. i have a RED clock, yes that's right a RED clock. You can see it perfectly red at night and its a gud look for my RED LIGHTED interior. Want pictures? hold on..... its just a piece of cellophane stuck in front of it. I didn't use glue and mine stays fine, but i really didn't care to use glue, i might do that later, but mine looks REALLY good. During the day its kinda hard to see, but then i put a black piece of paper in front of the clock and you can see the clock better.

Hey,
Banana agrees with me? Extra cool
What have ya got to loose by trying the cellophane thing?
$5 and 10 minutes of your time. No big deal.
Try it, you'll like it!

How did you get your console to be red?

You guys are correct. You need to try to overlay the stock clock (blue/red cellophane or blue/red gels). It makes the clock very dim during the day, but... what else can you do? There are tiny led's lighing the LCD that cannot be changed, you'd have to replace the whole assembly, and quite frankly I don't think it would be worth it. Gels make the clock more dim than cellophane, so, I'd go with the cellophane (it's thinner). You'll get an orange look with red and a teal look with the blue.

i took out the center console, and removed the BULBS. There are 2 bulbs and i took them out. Then i peeled off the green cap, which makes the ligths green, then i got candy apple red spray paint and sprayed the bulbs with two coats. Also, if you have an automatic (like me) there is a bulb on the left of the PRND12 thing that you can paint red too. Oh, and there's a bulb for the cig lighter too. i should take some pictures so you know what i'm talking about. i'll do that today after lunch...geeze i'm hungary.

actually, what you hafta do is stick a piece of black paper or viynl or something black in front of the clock so during the day, you can see the clock. try it, it actuallly works.
I actually get a red look with the red stuff. i guess my picture is just not red enuff huh. but i do get red, not orange.

they're not actually bulbs they're LEDs. so replacing them isn't easy since most don't have a wide enough angle to light everything up.
