View Full Version : SSR Comps on the way .. experience with Hankooks?

My SSR Comps should arrive this week, and I ended up getting some Hankook Ventus for tires.
I wasn't familiar with that brand, and was just gonna get more Kumho 712s like I have now, but the guy at the tire shop swore by these. He carries both, and the Hankooks were the same price, so I don't think he was scamming me.
Anyways they're Korean like Kumho, Z-rated, and the tread pattern looks similar to the 712s. The clincher for me was that they come with road hazard warranty, and I've ruined two 712s in the past 6 months.
:wiggle: Just wondering if anyone here has experience with these tires. Thanks!

I got a set of those ventus sport 104's on my volks that I just bought too. The guy was gonna charge me the same price for those, or the kuhmos , he said they were just as good as the yoko paradas which would have cost me more $$, he wasnt trying to upsell the more expensive yokos to me, so he must really believe they are a decent tire.
I havent gotten a chance to try them out tho, they sent me the wrong hubcentric rings :( still waiting on those before I can put the volks on.
but ive checked around on the net and from what I gather they are at least as good as the kuhmos.
Not many reviews on them yet cause theyre so new.

kabal57: Glad to hear someone else has these tires. I hope they last me a couple years. Tire company names are great. Nothin like goin from a Kumho to a Kook
GT-S Celica: Yeah I know about the problems with these rims. Believe me, a lot of debating went into the decision. I kind of wanted 17" Volk GT-As coz they're beautiful, but they're a little heavier than I hoped for. I ended up getting 16x7 Comps to shave a couple pounds and get more sidewall protection.
I do know at least one person on this board has 17's and hasn't had a problem, and same deal with a couple cars on clubrsx (no flames for reading that board!)
The good news I've found is that most of the horror stories I can find were on that first production run of Comps .. back when they had that kind of bluish tint. Maybe they got things straightened up now, or maybe that's just coincidence and they're poo.
If they turn out to be ****, you guys will be the first to know ;)
Liquid: The Miata crowd had some problems with bending these rims. Someone kept a log of the problems and posted it here (http://freepages.autos.rootsweb.com/~jaimev/miata/ssr-comp-problems/). Those pics visit me in my night terrors. Too late to turn back now tho

and i reccomend sumitomos before each of those tires. The sumitomo HTRZ II is available at tirerack. I have them, and they kick kumho's ass

dee5330: They're 16x7 +40
NSX_GTR_LM: I keep hearing good things about those Sumitomos but my local place doesn't carry them. How many miles you got on yours?

I am pushing probably 2K on them right now, and so far they aren't wearing down too quickly. i dont really notice any treadwear so far, but the grip is phenomenal. Screw the place you want to get them at, just go to tirerack. i really reccomend these tires.
